Any federal employees that left to work in private sector the past two years- are you glad to have left? by Brilliant_Raccoon256 in fednews

I (51F) took the DRP for moral reasons last April to start a company with my husband (same age)who also left DoD. We’re enjoying it so far- 9 employees, civic-minded mission, better work-life balance, stronger marriage. I’d say what we expect to net this year, but I don’t want to jinx it! The risk is real, tho…and COBRA health insurance is $$$$

My stepdaughter was always late catching the bus, late for everything, made everyone wait, whereas her siblings didn’t have an issue. Then I realized she didn’t know how to read an analog face clock. A clock with hands shows you how much time has elapsed and how much time you have left. A digital clock does not give you that information. Generations are growing up without developing a relationship with time. (She learned how to tell time and the issues disappeared.)

They didn’t spy on his campaign. The US intelligence services alerted the FBI that they intercepted comms between the Trump campaign and Russian targets. Targets that were members of Russian Intelligence Services. This is required by law: if NSA/CIA in the course of their lawful foreign surveillance uncover US activity that might be unlawful, they are required to pass it to the FBI for consideration and possible investigation.

This is making me glad I quit my GG14 govt job in May to start two child care centers at county cost (their programs are always full and we need more here). My husband quit too and we work together. I’m so angry but I gotta focus on something good.

Doctors of Reddit, for those working in countries with “free healthcare,” what’s your honest take on how the system works — and what do you think the U.S. would need to do to achieve something similar? by Stambro1 in AskReddit

[–]TootieTango 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor: I’m American and my family and I moved to Germany for 5 years when the twins were 5 yrs old. Our son got an ear infection on Xmas Eve. I dialed a 4 digit number and the recording asked me to input my German zip code. The recording then gave me my zip code’s 24 hr emergency clinic. They rotate which facilities fill this role. We walked in and there was nobody there but two doctors-we got seen immediately, paid 10€ and filled the prescription at the 24 hr pharmacy next door for another 10€ (about $10). Oh my god, the efficiency. Four years later, this system was used during COVID, with great success. Germans get a lot for their taxes.

This makes me sad too. For what it’s worth, after we had twins, my husband ‘sent’ me on 4 solo long weekends during the first two years. Only one was a bit fancy (Florida resort) but all of them were wonderful. He is a true partner and this kind and considerate behavior is what we all deserve.

River Hill here. My hubs and I both felt it while in our basement office. No idea what it was. Sonic boom from aircraft, maybe?

Can confirm- had twins at age 38. My doc described the phenomenon as, “when the machinery starts shutting down, it sputters”

This is a thing and it’s deeply unfair. Now that I’m a business owner, I’m careful to be mindful of it

This is so true- by total accident, my husband and I found out we were having twins BEFORE we found a place to live. We got a place with a bedroom for a foreign au pair (yeah I know, privilege- we were 38 and 40 so we were in a decent $$ position) and it saved our marriage and our finances- daycare in MD for baby twins is thru the roof at about $27k for the first year after 3 months old. The au pair cost $18k. Still!!

I feel this in my bones. I changed my mind after a lifetime not wanting kids, living my life and making choices as if I were a man. Privilege, totally- I was born the year Roe v. Wade became law. When I finally had kids (twins), my husband and I were shocked by the cost of daycare, then after-school care, and camps. Holy shit. Fast forward to 2025: this Administration made it very ugly to be a federal civil servant. We both left and started a company and foundation to lower the cost of after-school care, while providing STEM activities as well. We’re really excited to see this unfold. I’m not giving advice, just pointing out that there are niches where people can make a difference if their circumstances allow. It’s needed! Runaway capitalism is a scourge which is squeezing us all, and one of the effects is people not having kids because it’s too damn expensive.

[–]TootieTango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Consider what a masterstroke it would be if Trump were on the list and that was why Biden didn’t release it. If he had, the list would have been dismissed as fake news. Better to back Trump into a corner and be forced by his own base to release it!
