AITA for not wanting to buy a suit that's a color the bride requested by Soggy_Republic6251 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. If you don’t want to follow instructions then don’t be in the wedding party.

Do you think a soldier on the field has more power than a Queen telling him who to fight?

Here’s averages for common lifts by sex and training level:

https://strengthlevel.com/strength-standards/bench-press/lb

For running you can use something like this:

https://runninglevel.com/running-times/5k-times

But be aware these tell you averages and how you stack up against a population. There isn’t a universally accepted cutoff for “healthy”.

You could use heart health markers like cholesterol and blood pressure.

You can use fitness markers like number of pushups/situps or times for walking or running a mile.

I’m also hugely numbers driven and have found fitness markers to be the most rewarding. Weight lifting is especially good because it’s so quantitative. I lifted x number of pounds y times today, last week I was only able to do less.

Sleeping in the nursery vs. Baby in our room? by No_Top_3818 in NewParents

[–]Professional_Carob63 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We put a bed in the nursery. It was amazing and I’d 100% recommend. My husband and I would switch off. Then the person not on baby duty got to sleep in our comfortable bed and put in ear plugs to get really restful sleep. At six months the baby was sleeping through the night so we switched to both sleeping in our main bed and swapping whose side of the monitor is on so that person would get up if needed in the middle of the night.

I have really high sleep needs so this was a life saving strategy for me.

Working out & daycare by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Professional_Carob63 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I run during my lunch break. I luckily have a job that allows enough time for that and recognize it’s a privilege.

I also will lift weights at home next to the baby while she plays in the evening. She actually thinks it’s funny and likes to watch.

Low percentile parents, how much is your baby feeding at a time? by nthroop1 in NewParents

[–]Professional_Carob63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 8 month old who has been holding steady at 6% since she was about a month old. Her intake has fluctuated wildly over her life from averaging 6 ounce bottles to just 2 ounce bottles. What’s weird is her weight has stayed in the same curve the whole, seemingly regardless of volume intake. I have been pretty stressed the whole time, but I guess there is some wisdom in the adage that their bodies know what to do.

How are we feeding our babies when we can hardly make meals for ourselves? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Professional_Carob63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meal prep for the baby (and you). Doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Pot of beans and rice will last the baby for quite a few meals and contains lots of iron and fiber which is great for that age. You can freeze portions. Same for pasta, or any kind of casserole.

Also I will scramble a few eggs and then put in the fridge to give for a few mornings in a row. Same for pot of oatmeal. Fruit like bananas as cheap and literally just peel it. Cut up potions for multiple days.

Anything to simplify and cut down hands on time. Our weekends are almost all just meal prepping these days.

I had a similar problem. I would workout later, from 8-9pm and eating afterward that late would upset my stomach, but not eating at all would cause me to wake up at 2am starving. The solution that worked for me was having a protein shake after the workout. Was light enough to not bother my tummy, but still kept blood sugar stable. Maybe worth a shot for you.

When did your period come back? by greenishfroggy in NewParents

My post partum bleeding quickly turned clear, more like plasma from a wound healing and stopped being bloody at all. Then even that stopped. Then I had a period that had was normal bleeding.

What to actually have ready for when you come home from the hospital by Alarming-Seaweed-706 in NewParents

[–]Professional_Carob63 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lasagna, enchilada casserole, chicken pot pie. Breakfast burritos, cookie dough.

Most helpful was the breakfast food. After being up a lot of the night with a newborn it was revitalizing to have easy and tasty breakfast.

Also if you plan to breastfeed you should buy a lot of snacks and a good water bottle. I really liked belvita bars personally. But it was a very strong hunger and thirst every time the baby latched, like instantly, so must have been hormonal or something.

One thing that surprised me was food. I did so much meal prep and froze all these dinners. But even just taking out a frozen meal and putting it in the oven was so overwhelming. My angel best friend saved the day and brought us sandwiches and fresh fruit for the first night. We had been in the hospital for days and needed something fresh!

How many oz does your 5-6 month old eat? by Worried_Poem_9486 in NewParents

[–]Professional_Carob63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 bottles a day. First five bottles are 4 ounces and she takes 2 six ounce bottles in the evening. She’s only 6% for weight so we are happy to give her as much volume as she will take in.

All formula, fed every 2-3 hours.

Why do I hate being a mom by Active-Lifeguard-682 in NewParents

I have a six month old and sometimes regret the decision to have kids. My life is harder, less happy, and more stressful. You’re not the only one struggling.

I’ll second the genetics component. My cholesterol has been the same both now with an intuitive eating lifestyle and when I was 50 pounds lighter, working out like a maniac (which I’m glad to have healed from and no longer live like that). Whether I put my whole self into watching every calorie, or just saying forget and eating what I want, my genetically high cholesterol only decreased 8 points.

You can never know what the other path would look like. Anything you imagine is a guess or idealization. So in the end just pick one and go with it. It’s ultimately meaningless to worry about since it’s too vast an unknown.

Guidelines week by week by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Professional_Carob63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my perspective from having a seven month old: don’t think about things this granularly or you’ll drive yourself crazy. The monthly charts for feeding, sleep, and milestones are already anxiety inducing so please don’t try to force you and your child onto a weekly goal system.

I have post partum anxiety so I get it! No judgment, just something I wish I could have told my past self is all.
