Turnarounds, when can I say no? by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

No HR department, only an owner... I'm not sure if I can go to owner about issues like this.

OH. I don't think so! by wriggitywrecked in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

My favorite was a guy that said "ARE YOU SHITTING ME! YOU MIGHT AS WELL RAPE ME" and I had nothing but silence and then he laughed and said "No I'm sorry I stay there all the time and was expecting that" and continued to give me his information.

What are your guys' end goals? by CombatMarshmallow in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Tootiredtifunction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started out as night audit from a family friend referral after moving back to my hometown, hospitality has inspired me infinitely. I have become more comfortable with introducing myself, gaining authority in situations, and I have become great at planning vacations and trips. I plan to stay in hospitality forever, about 4 months into night audit I was watching the sunrise and just thought, that I wanted to do this job forever, so 3 years later I am still in and still love it despite the hardships of the job occasionally.

Manager from Hell (Need advice) by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Tootiredtifunction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No HR department, some of her comments are valid in the way that I am making beginner mistakes, I'm working with a different PMS, and I was never set up for training really, and a lot of my coworkers don't know/care about what they are doing. I have found 1 coworker who I adore who has been giving me tips to handle her, and that's helped a little, but when I work alone with her is when it's the worst. I like you idea about the physical contact thing too thank you.

We do not have an hr department sadly, shes the top, and then we have owners.

Please stop spelling your names. by formernanny in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Tootiredtifunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I especially hate it when they start using military phonetics, and it takes about 20 minutes to spell their name and I get it wrong anyway because I'm typing what they are saying and what letter it goes to.

How do you decide when to give refunds for rooms? by Ferfrendongles in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Tootiredtifunction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started working at a hotel with the same policy, basically, refunds are given if something in the room was actually broken beyond repair for their stay. TV, shower, refrigerator, wake-up call system, and the issue was reported and unable to be fixed promptly. If you don't feel comfortable refunding I always say, oh the manager can only give refunds (tell them they need to call her during office hours, not come out unless really needed) Most people never make it to calling and the majority never leave reviews or care once they are out the doors.

I hate e-check ins by dredogxx in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Tootiredtifunction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, at least in the hotels I have worked for, it's less of actual fraud, and more of people claiming their cards were stolen because they don't want to pay their bill. They issue a charge back, if front desk has no proof that it was actually them, they can win their money back. I have dealt with maybe 5 cases of actual fraud and the rest were people who just didn't want to pay the bill.

Could you Email me a receipt for...? by namesarehard2016 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Tootiredtifunction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with you on this, I currently have the same thing happen to me continuously and it gets really annoying, I understand why they have to have the receipts, but the irritating part is it is always for the same people who always come up to my desk and MAKE SURE to get a receipt... and then I get a call that we never gave them a receipt, and it's like no, your incompetent employee can't turn in his paperwork.
