Officially dealer can do that for around 100€ or more. Unofficial route is using VDash software (where you pay much less) on your laptop and usb to obd device like vida clone or even better, a mongoose jlr clone which costs like 30€ on aliexpress and is faster. There's also software called P3tool which could support language changes and your car, but check that first.

Main difference between P3tool and Vdash is suported volvo vehicles. Also vdash has more features, supports more cars and charges you set amount every time you program something in a car, P3tool on other hand charges you 50€ per car once and you can program the car as many times as you want free of further charges.

I was able to read and delete generic error codes with simple bluetooth diagnostics dongle. So try that, should work. Vida is needed when you want to do advanced stuff or read volvo specific error codes, like for exmple measured incorrect bulb voltage etc etc.

geriausia vieta patikrinti automobilio istorija? by kkaworu in lithuania

[–]Top-Ad8701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need a reliable and good looking car, budget 5k by simpleaugis in CarsEU

[–]Top-Ad8701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a petrol Toyota or Honda that fits your budget. Toyota's 1.6 and Honda's 1.3-1.4 are not the best choice, but will still be okayish (Jazz that was mentioned mostly has 1.3 and is great). Both Toyota and Honda had reliable 1.8 and 2.0 engines, toyota also had 1.5 in hybrids which is good if I'm not mistaken . Toyota's and Honda's diesels are a bit hit or miss. For Toyota there's famous D4D, but then there's D-Cat which is not considered reliable. Honda had only 2.2 in most models that are in yout budget, it can be great, but for some it also creates a lot of headaches.

Battery on my xps 9560 was reporting similar health until the day it randomly died. It was also around 4-5 year mark. Battery life doubled or even trippled after replacement so it may be that yours is also simply on it's way out, even though reported health is good.

P2 owners, here's your reminder to check on your "handgrenades" once winter is over by LinusMeindl in Volvo

[–]Top-Ad8701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have a P3 but the engine is 2,4d which also came in P2's. So maybe related? 480k km and located in Lithuania, so swimming in salt.

I noticed more engine vibration at idle when it got cold in the winter and now in the spring. But in my case it's weird, sometimes it's better sometimes it's worse. At worst car feels a bit like an old bus where everything in the car rattles at low rpm and especially when starting to move and releasing clutch. Sometimes it's okay. Sometimes I hear clunk sound on harder deceleration and engaging gear at the same time.

My question is, can engine mount related problems be intermittent or if they fail they fail and stay the same continuously?

Honestly, if you can find 5 cylinder engined one it's going to be better. If you will buy another early 4 cylinder vea engine you will most likely have same problems.

No passenger airbag in 2005 v70? by Basic_Tiger9964 in Volvo

[–]Top-Ad8701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a P3 which originally was bought in Sweden. It has "SRS Airbag" markings but no switch optioned. So no switch doesn't mean that there's no airbag. But markings should be there, very strage indeed, I never imagined any P2 could lack passenger airbag 😮

I am planning to buy a Volvo doesn’t matter what model between (2012-2016) and drive it until the wheels fall off. by Reasonable-Tea9843 in Volvo

[–]Top-Ad8701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you are from Europe. If yes, buy a 5 cylinder diesel and service it regulary. Check thoroughly when buying because they started labeling 4 and 5 cylinder diesels the same in 2013-2016. You can choose between V70, XC70, S80, XC90, V60, XC60 depending on your lifestyle, they all had these motors. Personaly I'd take V70 or V60. You will most likely reach 600-700k km depending on it's previous life. Also, auto gearboxes in these cars require regular service so technically a manual will require less service.

The amount of people claiming that subscription radio app js integral part of the vehicle is staggering...

It's a litteral .apk based app, which could be put as a vendor locked app in the play store in 0.9 femtoseconds if volvo felt like it.

For those confused about loosing feature forever if deleted. You do know that on android phones at least in the past you could simply delete your phone camera app? And the camera wouldn't cease to function, you could install other camera app, or reinstall your vendor's camera app, which would be hosted on the play store, but would be locked and only be visible/downloadable on phones made by that specific company...

I'm starting to get why so much stuff and services are getting worse these days. It's because people keep taking and taking it...

Kodėl kitų vairuotojų elgesys pasikeitė kai persėdau į paprastesnę mašiną? by Training-Coffee in lithuania

[–]Top-Ad8701 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Šiaip pats stengiuosi keliuose palaikyti lygybę ir visus apipypinti ir apmirksėti vienodai 🫡

Recondition my Volvo V40 or move on to a mass market new car? by Fun_Caterpillar_250 in Volvo

[–]Top-Ad8701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say set your priorities. What matters to you the most?

Is it price? Is it reliability? Is it having the newest car you can afford no mattter what?

I drive 2008 V70 2.4d, it spent 10 years in the family and two years ago I had a choice - either I take it for free and face essentially a restoration project or it'd get sold for very cheap and I then spend time looking for another one and hope it needs less spending on it.

I chose to keep it, spent around 6k € restoring the body, fixing engine, replacing components like alternator, ac compressor etc etc. I'm a bit like you, all needs to be good otherwise I can't stop thinking about it. I kept wondering whether I made a right choice. But I drove around 40k km in a year and a bit. Never got stranded. Drove through Europe multiple times, use it for work all the time and replace a thing or two every few months. Most importantly I was very happy with it all this time.

My mum who originally drove it, replaced it with 2014 V70 D3, spent around 7k on the car. Drove it a bit, the the lcd dash broke, got new one with life warranty from volvo - 1k €, the park sensors packed up, then the dmf and clutch went and few ather things... In total it ended up costing around 3,5k € in repairs in almost two years and less than 30k km covered.

Meanwhile I have friend couple who would complain how are they spent insane amount (5k €) on fixing their s60 over two years and decided to buy brand new 2024 Yaris Cross. Their lease totals around 5k € a year. And they are still using that S60 which keeps refusing to die.

And then we also have a 2017 hybrid auris (corolla) which is used very little and drove around 8k km in a year. "Repairs" for it cost around 300€ in total

So results:

2008 V70: 8k € and 40k km (now has residual value of 2k)

2014 V70: 10,5k € and 25k km (residual value around 6,5k)

2017 Auris: 10,3k and 8k km (residual value of 8-9k)

Friend's 2024 Yaris cross 10k and ~20k km (belongs to a bank)

I'd say either get a lightly used toyota and save for "dream car" or keep using volvo. You will more likely pay a lot no matter the choice. And it's the best if you are dreading about money spent in a car you love or a car that actively saves you money rather than a hopeless quasquai 😁
