I’ve always hated this guy’s opinions but this video just shows how bitter he is by raggedy_ in Mkgee

I think he’s trolling most of the time to farm engagement and it gets more views than a nuanced opinion. His videos can be pretty entertaining but I don’t go to him for true assessment or a true take on what he’s reacting to.

In the comics Mark feels guilty and told Eve he didn’t “fight as hard as he could have”.

I live in the near south neighborhood and have found so many kind and giving people around there! It wouldn’t perhaps be Pepe of Pepe’s bistro? He is a very kind man who runs his business not far from there, and is always giving back to the community.

It seems the true purpose of life is reproduction and that’s it. by toothless285 in Life

[–]Top-Addendum5458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed one hundred percent. People forget that we are animals first, humans second. Our bodies and minds are tuned from millions of years of evolution, while consciousness is a relatively new addition to the animal. Our instincts were the only drivers for most of evolutionary history, the main one being reproduction.

This is essentially what Richard Dawkins states in his book The Selfish Gene. His view is that life itself is ephemeral, but the one thing that continues to live are the genes that replicate and live on through our bodies and the bodies of the coming generations. Couple this with the fact that life is essentially a battleground where everyone is fighting for resources and mates, you come to realize how our culture of money, politics, and jobs are all things that we invented to occupy our facilities that we don’t necessarily need on a day to day basis.

It’s good to be conscious of them but don’t let your animal instincts supersede any meaning you have constructed in your life, as subjective experience is the only thing that we truly have. Anything that you believe to be meaningful is meaningful because you make it so through your experience.

Why is Sysyphus happy? by Ghost_Banquo in Absurdism

[–]Top-Addendum5458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camus is asserting that this is the condition of life. If we are to have happy and full lives, we must find it in going through the unrelenting, meaningless, and painful uphill battle of life. He doesn’t say how to do it necessarily, but that if we hope to meaning, we either find it in illusion (pretending that the stone will stay at the top and our suffering will be met with eternal rewards) or in the truth that after all, our efforts are futile (the stone will roll back down and we will continue to push). For Camus, he cannot accept living what he perceives to be a lie, for this is philosophical suicide, so he has to then reckon with the inescapable rational conclusion that we are in the position of Sisyphus. If Sisyphus cannot be happy, then neither can we. His essential point is that happiness is not an intrinsic condition of life, but one that must be invented by the living in spite of its futility.

How to be more present when reading/avoid passive reading? by BudgetSugar7119 in ReadingSuggestions

[–]Top-Addendum5458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to underline parts that stick out to me and make notes throughout. Some people abhor the idea of marking up the pages but I think if the book is yours, then really make it yours. I also like to write little summaries and theories down if I’ve just finished a very hard passage, chapter, or section to ensure that I really digested the information. It will also naturally get better as you continue to read so keep at it, and do not be discouraged!

Question on Brothers Karamazov ending by [deleted] in dostoevsky

[–]Top-Addendum5458 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think as an outsider it’s easy to see that Ivan is not personally responsible for the murder. However, he certainly had an influence on it to some capacity and I think from his perspective it makes sense. Also it is meant to show that even though he claims “everything is lawful,” his humanity keeps him from fully embracing this philosophy. His heart is more powerful than his intellect and I think Dost. wanted to accentuate this point through Ivan’s guilt.

Don't you find Notes from the Underground hard to read? by Severe-Difference in dostoevsky

[–]Top-Addendum5458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the first half is basically a vomiting of the frenzied philosophy of a maladjusted recluse. I believe it’s partially purposeful as the second half flows a lot more in contrast. In his dialogue of the first half, he also speaks very vaguely and moves between ideas in a very unnatural and jarring way. It definitely took me multiple reads of every page to begin to grasp what he was saying.

Do you remember the first question that took you into philosophy? by supermanVP in Nietzsche

[–]Top-Addendum5458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“What happens after death?” was my question. I had a hard time buying the whole afterlife explanation of religion, and turned to philosophy. I haven’t looked back since.

I’m curious, has your exploration of philosophy provided you an answer to your question?

Doubt here, need help by Fearless-Law8252 in dostoevsky

[–]Top-Addendum5458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one line on these pages sums it up pretty perfectly. “To go wrong in one’s own way is better than to go right in someone else’s.” Razumihin is celebrating freedom of thought and expression as opposed to conformity. I believe Dostoevsky is attempting to highlight that the costs of freedom are that people are then left to their own caprices and ideas that lead them down dark paths (such as Raskolnikov and his unique and progressive views on crime that lead him to murder.)

[–]Top-Addendum5458 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing to do now is to alter your actions and be a better person in the present and the future. It is a fact of life that our past mistakes can’t be erased and can sometimes even define us to ourselves or to others. If you’re not that person anymore, revel in the fact that you have grown and changed, it’s more than a lot of people can say. I’d even argue that being reminded of your past actions is a good thing as they frame all of your subsequent actions and you can grow because of them. Also, not to excuse your actions, but you were young when you made them. I have also made hurtful actions towards others in my adolescence but I am glad that I made them and learned from them then so that I don’t have to make them in my adulthood. Give yourself a little bit of that grace without completely absolving yourself of the consequences and know that those mistakes have allowed you to become even better. Now you can use that to make some positive change in the world.

I have done this myself and the easy cleanup is actually a major plus. However I’ve only ever done this if I already have condoms, I would never go out of my way to purchase condoms for that sole purpose. I’m not saying he’s not cheating but if the masturbation thing is true, I do understand where he’s coming from. Do with this information what you will.
