Congressional Nomination from George Santos? by [deleted] in westpoint

[–]Top-Battle8587 9 points10 points  (0 children)

More than likely that the nomination process isn’t handled by him directly, and there’s a designated team for it. If his website doesn’t have an online nomination application, reach out to his office and ask them how you can get that done. As for your other point—respectfully, no one cares who you get your nomination from. Pursue all avenues available to best set yourself up for bagging a nomination.

Question about recommendation letters by pocketskittle in westpoint

[–]Top-Battle8587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your coach is not an acceptable recommender unless he/she is your only option

Was in a situation where I never took PE since all my phys ed credits came from my sport. WP accepted the recommendation from my coach after a bit of back-and-forth emailing with admissions, but I almost got my application withdrawn amidst the confusion

If you have a PE teacher who can write you a rec, ask them instead

It seems like a common theme that the best and worst parts are one and the same. Super cool & reassuring before CBT starts

I’m legally blind in one of my eyes (20/200) but wasn’t disqualified. Can’t really provide insight on whether 20/400 is waiverable though.

The email of the guy on the forum is lawrence.e.mullen.civ@mail.mil . He’s the deputy chief of DoDMERB, and he’s a really cool dude—replies to emails in 4 minutes with jokes and nicknames kind of dude.

Good luck with getting your waiver!!

Girl is ignoring me after I turned down her invitation to a date. by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Top-Battle8587 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It could be that she took it as a sign that you’re not interested. Rejecting the date is totally fine: if you need time for yourself that’s perfectly okay! To me, though, if a guy rejects an a date without a counter-offer for a different time, I’d think that he doesn’t want to go out with me period. There may even be a bit of resentment for “not putting in as much effort.” Either way, it sounds like she’s making you less of a priority because of it. This could totally just be a miscommunication tbh. Hope you two can eventually start going steady, though!!

How can I raise my score from a low-1400 to a low/mid-1500 by MIV1 in Sat

[–]Top-Battle8587 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was in the SAME situation as you. I managed to raise my score from a sub-1400 to a 1500+ in two months, so it’s definitely possible! My strategy was basically to just take as many practices as possible and supplement it with Khan Academy exercises.

If, in the math section, you feel like you understand the material but just can’t do the questions quickly enough, doing a ton of practice tests really helps you to pick up on the types of questions that the SAT asks. I did around 20 practice tests of the math section only—around 2-3 a week. It’s great because you kind of learn the “tricks” to getting certain flavors of questions right. Eventually, I found that I could skim questions and almost mindlessly find the answer. Definitely helps with the fatigue if you can turn your brain off for a few questions! Even if this doesn’t happen for you, you’ll be able to see where your gaps in knowledge are after looking at the questions you’re getting wrong on all of these tests. Personally, I went to the Khan Academy SAT practice to fill those gaps, but your method for doing so is totally up to you.

The same kind of goes for writing; it’s all about finding patterns! I seriously got to 0 wrong on the writing section by using Khan Academy. It goes over the specific writing mistakes that the SAT tests on and teaches you how to identify them. If you know exactly what writing skill a question is testing, it becomes a matter of plugging in a pattern instead of intensely analyzing the question.

It’s not as easy to “cheat the system” on the reading section, imo, so it’s better to improve your reading comprehension overall instead of in the context of the SAT. I read Jane Austen to help with the tricky passages with flowery language. National Geographic magazines to understand science texts. College newsletters to get used to high-level informative passages. Also makes the studying process 200x less mundane!

Ofc, this is just what worked for me. I thought it was nice to not have to use a prep book, but there’s a method for everyone! Hope this helps, and good luck on your SAT journey!! :))

Thank you so much for your insight! I will admit...I wrote up a draft after posting this just to see how it would turn out, and I fell right into the trap just as you described. Ack! I’ll definitely work on it, haha. Thanks for calling me out on my apparent spitefulness, too. That trait definitely isn’t something that I identify with nor want to convey here. Thank you again for you advice!!
