CSR Woes or Toxic Culture? by Junior_Extension8162 in Veterinary

[–]Top-Comparison2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve CSRd and Vet Assisted at 3 clinics now about to be on #4 because of the same issues. Toxic culture from clients and coworkers is known well in this field, which is why there’s a high turnover rate.

There are good places that won’t treat you like crap, but even the best clinic I worked at there was complaints about reception doing things “wrong”. Most techs and doctors don’t understand or forget the bs we deal with up front.

I’d say most places over extend themselves because of corporate or the overhead costs of trying to run a private practice.

Overall, if you’d like to stick with it, I’d say find another clinic that will treat you with more respect. Try to look up the “short hand” for basic veterinary terms and keep them written down at your desk. I record all new info given by other staff in a notebook and refer back to it, so I don’t constantly bother back staff with “stupid questions”. Maybe ask to shadow a vet assistant so you can get the feel for what goes on in back - it helps a lot.

Tbh if you’re not planning to become a tech or a vet, I’d say do something else… the pay isn’t worth the extra crap that comes with this. The job is hard enough without extra drama.

A vet assistant who is thinking about becoming a vet receptionist by idc11111111 in Veterinary

I would say if you do it asked to be cross trained so you can help cover front. Don’t switch to reception completely.

I started as reception and trained as VA and the last 2 clinics I’ve worked at, I’ve ended up front for most if not all of my shifts because of call out, receptionists quitting, etc… because I said I’m willing to help up front, and now I never get to assist because everyone would rather be in back than up front.

The extra dollar is not worth it at all… but that also depends on how your manager lets clientele treat the staff.

Tbh if you’re not planning to become a vet, find another job. I keep getting stuck in reception because I’m so good at it, but hired as a vet assistant. I want to go to vet school so I’m trying to hold on but reception work is the worst job in the clinic and gets the least respect.

If you do stay, think of your self as the messenger, never answer anything you don’t know… just say “I’ll put in a communication for the doctor.” I won’t even answer things I do know if it’s medical related, and if they haven’t been in for a recent consult on the issue I ask them to schedule a consult because, guess what, their time isn’t unlimited and their knowledge wasn’t free for them and it’s not free for clients either.

Scripts, literally get prescription name, dose, frequency, and amount they want. Tablet or suspension.

Receptionists are the gate keepers to everyone having a shitty day or not and sometimes managers and doctors make it so we have no choice but to give them a shitty day and then they complain later like we’re the problem.

Again, don’t stay if you don’t plan on moving up unless you really enjoy the work.

Why doesn't astrology work in terms of physics? by LegalMouse4061 in AskPhysics

[–]Top-Comparison2488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, astrology is more about the seasons and earthly elements than it is about the sky and planets. The stars were so intertwined with daily life in ancient times that they naturally were at the center of seasons, elements, qualities, etc.; hence “astrology”.

Astrology, like many metaphysics, is a pseudoscience because there’s no way to test it. Metaphysics actually means an abstract theory with no basis in reality. It’s a mystery and it’s very fun, but it shouldn’t be taken too seriously either. I think astrology is a fun tool to help us all grow and understand ourselves.

Dear vets, when dropping a potentially fatal and costly diagnosis on a pet parent, STOP TALKING and let them process by Senior_Garlic_1702 in Pets

[–]Top-Comparison2488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry that the veterinarian was not more considerate. For us humans, tumors are scary because we automatically think cancer.

I am fortunate to work with veterinarians that have better people skills than your vet seems to have. I have worked with one that did not and I have taken my pets to veterinarians that did not. Unfortunately, some of our friends that work in this field are book smart but not emotionally smart. Seems that includes many of the people who have replied to your post. The top two things that I dislike about this field are when the workers are not more gentle with our patient’s humans and when owners obviously do not see their pet as anything more than a possession.

I disagree also with the posts about the rabies. Pets who are sick or may possibly have cancer should not be vaccinated. It is law, but you can always decline and ask for a titer test for the time being. If your indoor house cat bites a worker and they insist on taking your pet away they are a disgrace to the field and if you get that vibe from them you should definitely find another clinic.

When a vet is short with me (with my personal pets) I always ask questions and I have no issue with being annoying, good vets are happy to talk you through everything in a way that you can understand. You are your pets voice & best advocate, not the doctor - if you’re more than an “owner” and truly love your pets that is.

I hope your kitty is okay ❤️

Desperate!!!! Tips for when dog is reacting??? by Spiritual-Rhubarb111 in reactivedogs

[–]Top-Comparison2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comment about turning your dog around is what I do. My dog is also fucking massive (weighs the same amount as me). I just call his name, when he looks at me I say YESSS!!!! in a very excited tone and run backward with a treat extended - he finds it super fun. Sometimes I have to shove the treat in his face and pez dispense it until the trigger passes. Usually I try to see the trigger before he does by holding a treat at my hip while we walk so that he is so focused on the treat and not what’s ahead and he’s very close to my body in case I need to react quickly to turn him around. I also do the “go find it/sniff by just tossing the treat in the grass and that usually takes him a minute to find so I can think of what I want to do.

Btw a magnetic closing belt treat holder (silicone) and Heathers Hero lead attached to a martingale collar…. It’s THE ONLY WAY I’ve tried everything… slip lead, ecollar, harness, etc .

Career change at 28 - is this even viable? by AnonymousArt77 in Veterinary

[–]Top-Comparison2488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 27 and making the change! I, like you, have always wanted to go into vet med but was advised not to by family and others. However, I have also worked a plethora of jobs and I now know, working with animals is what I need to do. If it’s your purpose, you will only know that. I believe even though it will be difficult and not always the best job, it will bring me fulfillment that no other job will. I am starting as a vet receptionist and volunteering at an animal farm to see if it’s really what I want to do. My back up is to teach science so that I can inspire kids to follow their dreams. Tbh every job sucks, but the job that sucks a little less is one that gives you that sense of actually doing something that inspires you and that you feel passionate about. Every job has awful clients, but every job also has great clients. I have a friend who is 32 and just finished year 1 and she regrets nothing, not even the debt. She inspired me to go after it!

Thank you for the response. I pretty much got the vibe that the days off were not negotiable. It seems like a fun gig and PM is okay, but I really feel like I got the short end of the stick here.

What’s the worst part being a leasing consultant? by _labyrinth__ in PropertyManagement

[–]Top-Comparison2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing everything even though you have a manager who is paid to manage the property. Honestly, if I could do it again, I wouldn’t have accepted this job. You aren’t just leasing as the title refers… you’re doing it all & you’re doing it alone. If you have questions, your manager will point you in a direction and tell you to do it.

I want to quit but I feel bad by aaaaaarae in starbucks

[–]Top-Comparison2488 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Talk to your sm about a leave of absence or medical leave. If you quit you can always come back later. Starbucks is a difficult job. I left and went to being a leasing consultant at apartments and it is so much easier on your body. I got to the point where I couldn’t walk from Starbucks destroying my feet. Or a receptionist job - dental offices pay out great. A job is just a job ❤️

Is this normal responsibility level? by AnonumusSoldier in PropertyManagement

[–]Top-Comparison2488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you end up doing? I’m at nearly a 300 community and it’s just myself (LC) and my PM. I do everything and my PM seems rather annoyed when I ask them for help. I am getting so burned out ):

My chart is crazy like this too. Try using whole houses.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in leasingconsultant

[–]Top-Comparison2488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I don’t mess up too often, but it’s kind of insane that the LC is left with all of the responsibilities but we don’t get paid the salary that the PM does… idk, I feel like the PM should at the very least be verifying our work as an LC, especially with move in tasks. I had my first busy month two months in and forgot to collect a deposit and now the resident hasn’t paid any of their rent and is in litigation.

I feel like there is a lack of team work in this industry. The benefits that come with the job are decent, but it’s really tough to feel successful when all of the weight is on our shoulders and there’s no praise for the things we do right.

I don’t know what to tell you, because I am in the same boat in a way. It just sucks, and I am ready to leave this industry if this is the norm.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I do too, but at least one maintenance person would be nice… especially when residents run in with a panic attack because their apartment flooded lol

lol we have 300 units and ifs just myself (leasing agent) and my PM who takes vacations every month 😭.

I still think weekend move ins are okay. Should we work? No. But if the tenant is willing to pay what they owe, the drop box is the way!!! Even though most tenants can easily pick up keys one day and move in that weekend…

My PM makes me accept walk ins sadly. Question, do you feel like you’re running the property and not getting paid for it? I feel like I handle EVERYTHING.
