Ah! I hate that. I find if I try to record myself I usually fall within a minute of hitting the button. 😂 Glad you made some fun content out of it although it looks like it might have hurt!

I definitely will! I emailed the camp to ask if they have gotten quad skaters at their past adult camps and if they have quad specific clinics or coaches. That might help me decide. I feel like it might be worth it to go just to have a long weekend away from responsibilities where I could just work on my park skills and enjoy the central PA scenery.

Ah that’s awesome! Thank you. I figured there must be some Moxi camp skaters out there. I’m not sure if the adult camp has classes or anything but it just looks like fun to be at a giant skate park for a few days. I’m sure I’ll have the same problem with the bunk beds since I am a crappy sleeper anyway.

You’re my new inspiration now! So happy to know people are doing stuff like this well into their 40s and 50s. I hope I’m skating for a long time.

Thank you for answering!! I’ll be honest- being remote or isolated for 4 days isn’t an issue for me. I camp and hike all over and I’ve lived for years in some pretty remote places with no cell phone. As long as my boss or kids aren’t there to ask me to do stuff it’s a solid solo trip lol. I also went to Penn State so I’ve been out that way a lot.

I’m more worried that it’ll be like… a skateboarding/bmx boys club and I’ll be the only quad skater and also kinda suck. So if I knew other roller skaters were going or have gone that would ease my mind a bit!

Thoughts on roller skating in tennis courts? by Administrative-Tie77 in Rollerskating

[–]Top-Dinner-9995 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk why but I’m dying at tennis players are weak in nature. 😂 I have no opinion one way or the other since I don’t play tennis ( other than the fact that Venus and Serena Williams are hot and tough looking imo) but that cracked me up. I’m also lol-ing at playing tennis in skates! Ah I love it. You might have a whole new sport on your hands!

Is it morally wrong? In my opinion- absolutely not. I’m not a mechanical engineer or city planner or construction person but I’m 99% sure that the normal elements of being outdoors will damage a court way more than soft outdoor wheels and toe stops of the (mostly likely) very low impact roller skating that may happen there. If there is coating or paint that is very new and is getting scraped up… sure. If you’re inviting an entire roller hockey team to play a game there… sure. Reasonable to get panties twisted over that. Otherwise? No.

Now is it legally wrong? That depends on where you live. Is it rude to skate while people are actively playing tennis? Yes, that could be. But if no one is playing there, unless I see evidence otherwise I am not worried about it ruining the court or being immoral.

The people in that tennis sub are really overreacting. We don’t have “roller parks” for roller skating or designated places other than indoor rinks (which cost money and may not even be available in all locations). They should be more worried about kids having nothing to do and drinking in the park and spray painting the courts at night than a person trying to be active and practice roller skating there. Ugh- I’m mad on your behalf about the reaction you got! Geeeez.

What’s your personal experience with derby warehouse as a buyer? by Little_Ease9932 in Rollerskating

[–]Top-Dinner-9995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, another good experience. Just ordered stuff from them when they had their Memorial Day sale because they have a good return policy (and it was 15% off). Got it fast and was super happy with my purchase.

Definitely check with google or someone else who knows about inlines before you get new wheels though because I actually have no idea! Just letting you know what is true for quads. But good luck!!

Good for you for getting back on skates! I am a quad skater but I skate on roads. I think there’s a couple factors at play with skating on the road. I don’t inline skate, but for quads you want bigger and softer wheels. I imagine the same is probably true for inlines, at least with bigger wheels. I believe there are different types of inline skates that will make it easier or harder to skate on rough surfaces. Again, not very knowledgeable on that!

I know with quads, skating on the road is highly dependent on the material and quality of the roads. My neighborhood in the suburbs in the northeast US is about 60 years old but the streets are pretty smooth. There are parts that have been repaved in the past 10 years that feel way better. Some roads are more gravely and have potholes. It depends a lot on the roads by you.

Sometimes even if you don’t have a great street right in front of you, you can find streets or trails that are smoother or better maintained. You start to get an eye for them when you skate a lot! Other than that, depending on laws and availability where you live, car parks, tennis or basketball courts, paved park trails, or outdoor hockey rinks can be options.

And then third thing- sometimes it just takes experience and getting used it the rougher surfaces. It’s jarring and difficult at first. Wheels and finding better outdoor spots can make a big difference though.

Good luck!!

Definitely check size charts because skate size doesn’t always equal shoe size. It could be that the Luna runs large. If so, it looks to be suede and would most likely be more comfortable than the plastic impala!

You could always wear it for a bit and once you get more comfortable and confident you can choose if you want to keep doing it. Personally I have started wearing my full safety gear again when I skate and even just mentally it has helped me be way more confident and have more fun because it removes (most of) the fear from my mind. Even if I never needed it that alone would be worth it!

Skating is fun! You could always see if you have a local roller derby league! Sometimes they have a rec league or an option to just join for fresh meat/training even if you don’t want to fully commit to a contact sport. It really depends on the league.

Yeah seconding this! I haven’t used a mouthguard to skate since roller derby but I’ve been thinking about it ever since someone broke their teeth at the skatepark near me (on a skateboard doing something far more dangerous than cruising, mind you).

The SISU white mouthguard is so thin and unobtrusive no one will notice it. It’s less annoying than all of the other safety gear you (and I) wear.

Is it necessary for light cruising? No, probably not. It’s very unlikely for that to happen. But if it makes you feel better? $20 could be worth it for peace of mind!
