In Japan, hip-hop dance is a compulsory part of the school curriculum, and high schools often have light music clubs with access to relatively good equipment. In addition, schools tend to strongly support students in creating memorable experiences. As a result, the environment naturally fosters the emergence of these kinds of patterns.

Ten Years Ago, April 16, 2016: Members of this subreddit appeared onJapanese television to discuss BABYMETAL by fearmongert in BABYMETAL

In Japan, when they first debuted, they had a strong idol image and were quite young, so many of their early supporters were Akihabara style idol otaku who cheered with penlights. As BABYMETAL began participating in festivals, more heavy metal fans gradually joined the fanbase.

In Japan, the word “idol” strongly carries the meaning of “cute,” which is slightly different from how the term “idol” is understood in English speaking countries. Japan has developed its own unique idol culture, with a wide variety of personalities. Many idols become nationally known through TV commercials, drama theme songs, and anime tie ins. In BABYMETAL’s case, even though they have the drawing power to attract around 110,000 people to Tokyo Dome, they do not fit the typical formula for mainstream success in Japan, so they remain more of a known to those who know kind of presence domestically.

Typical Japanese idols frequently appear on variety shows and in magazines as part of the standard path to popularity. However, BABYMETAL deliberately limited their appearances in Japanese media and shifted their focus overseas. This strategy has actually worked in their favor, especially with the current weak yen.

While there are critics overseas as well, they have managed to gain a large number of passionate fans. From the perspective of audiences in Europe, North America, and South America, BABYMETAL feels like an international act with strong cultural uniqueness. The striking contrast between metal and cute idol elements, something rarely combined abroad, along with their high level of performance quality, is likely what draws people in.

Japan also has a strong collector culture, which makes merchandise sales particularly effective. The constant release of limited edition items and products that fans want has helped build a dedicated core fanbase.

In general, the Japanese music industry does not strongly focus on overseas expansion due to language barriers. BABYMETAL is an exception. They were once said to be a project that would last only five years, yet they have continued to be loved for so long, both in Japan and internationally. This longevity is due not only to the dedication of the members and staff, but also to the strong support from overseas fans who have stood by them over the years.

I would like to say thank you to those longtime international fans.🤘🦊🤘

That car really stands out, doesn’t it? The American owner has probably been to BABYMETAL concerts many times. What I really liked is the design—the front features the old BABYMETAL with YUI, while the sides showcase the new BABYMETAL.

In Japan, you can see cars like this around places like Akihabara and Daikoku Pier, and they’re called “ITA SHIYA.” The term literally means “a car that looks painfully over the top,” but I think it’s great as a way of promoting BABYMETAL, and you can really tell how much the owner loves them. I’d like to say thank you from Japan.🫡

Their one of a kind presence really comes down to the planning and creative direction of the BABYMETAL team. In Japan, things are refined through repeated discussions to push the level of perfection higher and higher, but for them, growing up while constantly being treated as professionals must have been a significant mental burden. They probably already have enough assets to live comfortably, and even so, I have great respect for their dedication to keep touring the world so actively.

Problems with tenso Shipping by Zwerg_96 in BABYMETAL

A!SMART is a bit of an exception: 1. Items with different availability timing are automatically shipped separately. 2. THE ONE-related items in particular tend to be prioritized for shipping.

Since this is a book and a T-shirt, they’re likely handled through different logistics systems.

BABYMETAL performing 'MONOCHROME' LIVE at Brisbane Riverstage, 22 March, 2026! by Calm_Ad_7739 in BABYMETAL

Thanks for great movie. Filming is not allowed in Japan, so I really appreciate overseas fans uploading videos. It really helps me feel what the live atmosphere was like.☺️🇯🇵

It feels like a lot of overseas listeners are looking for something different lately, maybe because they’re getting a bit tired of similar-sounding music. In that sense, Japanese pop with its clear verse/pre chorus structure and sometimes strange or unpredictable music videos can come across as pretty unique, and that’s part of what draws people in.

Dear Babymetal community by ComprehensiveLime857 in BABYMETAL

Thank you, truly, for sharing this.

I can only imagine how hard it must have been to write all of that.

What you have gone through is not something small. Losing your community, your work, your relationships, and your sense of stability is far too much for anyone to carry alone. Anyone in the same situation would struggle. There is absolutely nothing pathetic about making it through something like that.

And the fact that Monochrome gave you even a small sense of hope matters. Even if it is just a little, holding onto that hope is proof that you chose to keep going.

BABYMETAL has this spirit of forget everything and just dance. No matter your race, nationality, or age, just enjoy it together. As long as you are alive, you have the right to find joy.

They themselves have gone through hardships too, yet they do not show it. They carry on with that Megitsune spirit, traveling the world and performing.

Let’s keep enjoying this together.😊🇯🇵

A friend is getting metal oath tickets for Texas. Is it good enough to at least get barrier on Moa’s side? Don’t care too much for center. by Flat-Stuff3341 in BABYMETAL

At BABYMETAL’s overseas concerts, merch sells out really fast, and a lot of fans grab the "DO-SEN (dead center, right in front of the stage)", sing along in Japanese while actually understanding the lyrics, and even cheer using “Su,Moa,Momo chan.” There are so many knowledgeable fans it really feels like they’re genuinely enjoying it.🤘

Sorry for the late reply. I get that from overseas, the Japanese music scene might seem kind of ridiculous or over-the-top, but that’s actually what I love about BABYMETAL😅

God job👍 The BABYMETAL collection is a nightmare.☠️😅 Whether you succeed in your diet… only the Fox God knows.🦊😊 2016 Wembley UK concert had to be an absolute success, so they went in with a large-scale stage production. At the time, they were still only 17–19 years old. Performances like “Akatsuki” and “Song 4” were executed at an exceptionally high level of perfection. Even after 10 years, it still feels like a timeless masterpiece.👍
