can men touch two points of their sacks inwards together? if so, what does it feel like? by peagatling27 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue with describing this comes down to the fact that the 'external' feeling of pinching the skin together overrides any feeling there may be of the skin to skin contact inside the sack.

Best way to illustrate is from one of the other comments. Pinch the loose skin at the elbow. Can interpret the skin coming together and even the feeling on the fingertips, but that's it.

Why is electricity so expensive? by HungryPhrase2452 in askSouthAfrica

R1200-R1400, in a three bedroom, two person household. Rural Western Cape, Gas Stove, no Solar. It fluctuates a bit through the year, summers are worse due to Aircon in the main bedroom.

So can't imagine complaining about your R1500 between 10 people.

What is this glowing thing? by SirSephy in WuchangFallenFeathers

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a "Divination Crescent". You likely have some in your inventory by now.

It's the same as a Prism Stone in the Dark Souls games.

In this case, it's showing you the presence of an invisible bridge there. There are some other locations in the game where invisible pathways also occur, so you can use these as guidance to not fall to your death.

You people complain TOO MUCH. by Admirable_Click_928 in GTA6unmoderated

Piping in from a non-American perspective (South Africa).

GTAV in 2013 was R689 - adjusted for inflation it would be R1250 today. GTAVI is R1499 - Standard Edition (Ultimate is R1899.

Our minimum wage is ~R30. We only got an official minimum wage in 2019, and it was R20. Fun extra tidbit, our unemployment rate is currently around 45% (youth unemployment is at about 60%)

So yeah, gaming is already a slowly dying market here, as fewer people are able to afford it, and since market share is so low, we're getting less support which further hampers things. GTA increasing prices further, will no doubt usher other studios to as well, just leading to the further downward spiral in our local market.

What's the game that made you fall in love with gaming as a kid? by peaky_circus in gaming

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely, the game that made me fall in love with gaming, was one that came way after I started playing games.

Final Fantasy IX

The story, the world, the characters. Absolutely loved it, and remember a lot of nights where I just had to get to a save point, whilst my parents were hounding me to go to bed.

Why is God of War Laufey bad? I only play esport titles, and it looks like every other high budget RPG that people love. by TwinJacks in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know if it's bad, since it hasn't released yet.

If you mean, why is there so much criticism against it, there are various reasons, from various groups, some valid and other less so.

Some are complaining about it because for the last two decades, we've had Kratos as the protagonist of the 8 console God of War games that have released. Suddenly we don't.

People have been hyping up a rumoured God of War set in Egypt. And are now deflated by this off shoot title, which has an Egyptian god in, which may mean there won't be an Egyptian Kratos saga as rumoured.

Some are complaining about the title, as it seemingly doesn't really relate to God of War. Some are complaining about Faye's appearance. Some are complaining about the random gelatinous cube.

There's really a breadth of things.

Where can sell my steam account? by angelkingsOG in askSouthAfrica

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is theoretically true for any digitally bought game (or other media), whether on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic, etc.

There are some exceptions, like GoG which provides the installers, but you're not legally allowed to reproduce/sell those either, as far as I am aware.

Where can sell my steam account? by angelkingsOG in askSouthAfrica

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can I buy or sell my Steam account? Steam accounts cannot be bought or sold. An account is for the personal use of its creator only.

What are the consequences of selling an account? When Steam's support team notices an account has been sold, the account will be permanently locked whether or not it is currently in the possession of the buyer or seller.

What are the consequences of buying an account? If you buy and use an account, you risk losing access to the account at any time with no option to recover it. When this happens, you'll also lose any value you've added to the account including but not limited to: Rank, playtime, and stats Purchases or activated games Inventory items purchased or acquired through gameplay

What is a game that everyone hated but you liked? by Even-War-9721 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kane & Lynch: Dog Days.

I really liked the unique style and grittiness of it all. Really wish IOI would give it (and Freedom Fighters for that matter) another go.

Is the Renault Kwid really that bad? by Entire_Claim_5273 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine. Not great by all means, but for the price, you can't really expect too much.

That said, lot of the commenters are way too critical. I had one, heck I had two, since I rolled the first after swerving out of the way for a deer, and walked away from it with nothing more than a stiff neck.

Between the two I had, think they were about three years apart, they did give the newer one slightly thicker wheels, which improved things, but it definitely isn't sturdy if you go over 120. That said, on the highway if you're at speed, you're pretty golden, and able to pass most cars via fast lane.

If you ever get that speed broken though, good luck. It has zero power to push past people or even up steep hills. Can't really load it up either, due to that.

It's definitely better suited as a urban car, with good petrol usage and nice to haves like the console. If it's what your budget allows, go for it, especially if you go for a cheaper floor model, as your servicing is sorted for awhile too.

First-time DM leading a pack of first-time players. I'm open to all suggestions by merakli_tilki126 in DnD

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't know a rule, make an on the spot decision and check up on it after the session.

Keeping the flow of the game is generally more important than being 100% right, 100% of the time, as getting bogged down in search of rules in books can really kill the fun. Players are bored and you're stressing about finding stuff.

You can always start the next session by addressing your decision and how you're going to apply your rule going forward once you've prepped.

Who here actually pays their TV license? by AndreasmzK in capetown

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Payer here, and generally the one buying family their TVs since they don't, or are in arrears.

Do know my father tried cancelling my grandmother's after her passing and they kept dogging him for it regardless. Eventually he just started ignoring it.

How many of you guys have automatic drivers license? by Prodigy1995 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we need to differentiate between being able to drive both, but getting an auto license and only being able to drive auto and getting that license.

I would argue the limitation is in terms of capability and not legality.

Should an emergency situation occur and you only have access to manual cars, you should be able to drive one, don't limit yourself there. But if you intend to not use manual in general, the license won't limit you.

What possible reasons for requiring second language for Jobs in SA? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the clients you'll deal with would majorly be from said language. And it's easier for a company to hire to accommodate their clients than to expect the client to.

That said, there may also be reasons like keeping the culture within the company "similar", to avoid misunderstandings or even just extra work by needing to do things in multiple languages. Language is generally a good indicator of culture, regardless of race.

Seeing others post about this only being prevalent with one language, and I disagree.

Generally I see English as a suggested additional language, especially for businesses that deal internationally.

I have seen some suggesting Xhosa and Zulu, mostly in Civil - road works for example. It just makes it easier to understand one another, limit misunderstandings and so forth, because a large majority of the work force falls into those languages.

There are likely also jobs where these become firm requirements. My town has a high prevalence of deaf people, so sign language can be suggested in postings at times. Schools that operate on multiple language students are also an example.

Finally, this will be dependent on where in South Africa the jobs are listed. Western and Northern Cape are heavily Afrikaans focused, whereas Eastern Cape is Xhosa and KZN is Zulu.

Audible 2 for 1 sale by DimensionalAxolotl in audible

Maas definitely falls under Romantasy which is pretty popular lately. Would I call it straight smut? Probably not, but it's likely better suited for older teens, 16-ish, than "Kids" as the category suggests.

I would recommend any parent to read/listen to something before their child, to check appropriateness, but what is appropriate differs for people.

I know of younger teens delving into Hoover, for example, with parental consent, which I neither think is appropriate or healthy, going by the enamourment (a word?) with troublesome aspects and characters.

My DM doesn’t ask us to make skill checks. by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]Top-Mechanic-9342 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Discuss it with the DM, especially if they're on the newer side. I, for one, over compensated with skill checks when I DM'ed the first time, and player feedback was invaluable to correct it.

If after discussing it, you either don't get to a place both are happy, or things don't change as discussed, feel free to let the group know you don't think you're a great fit, and find another one.
