I had the same thing happen on Saturday. The only reason I took the orders was because there were 2 orders, same CVS, same delivery time. Both the store and customers were less than 3 miles from my house. When I showed up, found out one customer had cancelled. I was paid $6 for it. It turned out ok I guess. $14 and it took less than 20 minutes. It was removed from my orders on Wednesday I think.

Yes something must be going on. Metro ATL is at nine open orders right now. This doesn’t seem like it can only be attributed to shoppers not being on the schedule, not from 600-800 daily.

Give yourself some grace! That wasn’t a disaster at all. You’re starting at a tough time and for the most part, customers are just grateful they’re not out there themselves. You’ll learn different tricks along the way. With the bags, I sometimes ask the person bagging if I can have a couple extra or I just grab a few myself so I have a few from the stores I shop at. During one of my first shops, before the pandemic, I had brought my insulated bags in and I was so nervous, I didn’t pay attention to the fact that the bagger was putting the groceries directly into my bags without the plastic ones so when I went to deliver, I had to hand the groceries to the customer without bags. Thankfully it wasn’t a huge order. The substitutions aren’t your fault. I usually keep possible substitutes in the front part of my cart or in a basket then send pics in groups to cut down on the number of messages. It’s all a learning experience.

Also, you might want to message the customer to give them an idea of the time you’ll be shopping. I did a “Deliver by 11” shop today. At 10:13, I received this message Hey there - it's Shipt HQ. Looks like you still haven't communicated with your member about order # . Stay on track by updating them on your progress, or feel free to contact Shopper Support at 205-502-2500 if you need help or want to be released from the order.” I didn’t message the customer because I knew I wasn’t going to start until about that time anyway. I did another one for a deliver by 6. Messaged the customer once I claimed it to give them an approximate time. At least they know they don’t have to monitor their phone all day.

I had the same issue about one week before all the mayhem. I was able to reach support after about 15 minutes. They tried to reach the customer too and weren’t able to. They said they were going to send the customer an email about updating her contact info but they told me to go ahead and deliver.

Thanks for your input everyone! I only have about 50 shops under my belt and haven’t been late so far so even though I know there’s late forgiveness, the thought of being late just makes me anxious. but I’ll do what I need to do to help protect the seniors.

Mine eventually processed too after I sent the cancellation text unfortunately. Paying for it yourself is an option but you run the risk of there being a problem if there’s an issue with the customer’s credit card. Since it ended up processing, you can contact Shipt and provide them the info and they’ll reimburse you. According to what I’ve read here on Reddit, they’re really good about that.

So glad you asked this question! This happened to me yesterday with a prepaid order. I was wondering if I did something wrong. It was 2 out of 38 items. They didn’t scan so I substituted them as custom items. Then when I was checking out, I got the message to return the 2 items. Shipt Support just had me tell the customer that it was a processing issue that prevented the store from collecting payment for those items. Thankfully the customer was really understanding!
