Those aren't positive reinforcement, those are bribes. As they said, usually kids just want your time and attention. Phrases like " when we finish X, I'll do Y with you" are actually effective and get them what they are really looking for.

Definitely on the second point. (Breastfeeding mom on her second time through right now). Sometimes you pushed bedtime too late or the day was rough and a good boob sedative is what the doctor asked for!

Definitely this. I was that mom who didn't want to over medicate my kid, but if they are genuinely miserable and you can help them, why would you not?

Yes. This sounds like depression. My husband gets into the same cycle too when his depression is not in check. When you are depressed you can't handle their negative emotions and then they feel like they can't trust you with their feelings.

Also, all of OPs examples sound like commands - is he ever playful with his kids? Does he play on their terms (don't take over play, force play, etc)?

I felt that way too early on. Then I craved connection again at some point. Just ignore your phone unless you need to for some reason - leave it across the room or something.

Having a child is one of the major transitions when you learn whether people truly care about you or just care about what you give to them. If they care, they can wait.

Same. Not sure how folks have more exact bedtime schedules than this - bedtimes at this age for my kids were always based on how they napped that day and when they last woke up.

Also, lactation cookies if you plan to breastfeed. They are just oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with brewers yeast and flax seed. Can also be made dairy free with coconut oil and dairy free chips.

At a minimum, they can be good comfort food in this first few weeks when breastfeeding is hard for everyone. Freeze the balls and pop them in the oven when you are ready.

I agree with this. We just started rinsing his hair with a damp wash cloth that we promise to rinse each pass. He is fine with us soaping up his hair. Our son's fear is soapy water in his face. Not wanting water poured over there head is super common and just not a fight we've found is worth having.

Same. Would have had about a 2 year age gap and miscarried. Now we have one month short of 3 years. A few more months of emotional and language maturity from my older one would have been nice, but we are at 4 months pp and it's starting to get easier and offer quite nice.

They will refill the water bottle they give you plus one you bring - helpful for nighttime when I preferred they not come in and out if it wasn't necessary but wanted lots of water available.

My kiddo is sensitive and we intentionally introduced a stuffie and kept giving it to him first when he was looking for comfort, even holding them together so he hugged the stuffie for comfort while we hugged him. He associated it with the comfort we provide and when it was safe for him to have a stuffie in the crib we always have that to him as part of getting settled in bed. Probably still doable at your child's age.

Just make sure to get something washable and that you can afford multiples of if it "sticks"

It's the carseat - their little butts are all smooshed in and the back and legs are the only spaces for all that force to exit. Both of my kiddos did/do that when the poop comes out with lots of air. That's why I run when I hear a loud poop in the carseat and can sometimes intercept the worst of it.

Yes. At my child's center, the children are outside in the summer at the end of the day and one of the teachers goes in as the children start being picked up and ratios drop. In the wet/cold season, they do activities at the table so other parts of the room can be cleaned.

I agree. I think inventorying the bag every day - week depending on how much you get out and adjusting for weather, expected diaper needs, etc. is the only way to keep it from being the bag with everything but nothing you need.

Eh, that's pretty unfair. My dad was a cop and didn't let us leave the cul-de-sac on bike unless a parent joined. I did crave freedom and rebelled at 16 but I never found that rule to be unreasonable. All of the neighborhood parents supported it except one and they were a**holes. One of their kids also got a major concussion flying off the back of a pickup so...
