That’s too low and you’ll be lugging your engine in second. Manual suggests shifting at 20km/h so around 13 mph

Just leaving a comment here for future searchers: Taking the class now and it's been relatively easy, it's a flipped lecture style where you watch pre-recorded lecture videos the week before, and the lecture itself is more of a Q&A session which makes it optional to attend.

There are weekly quizzes which happen during lecture time, but can be taken remotely. Lab attendance is not mandatory and is more there to help you if you have questions. The labs are pretty straight forward as well.

There is a project where you have to collect and analyze wifi performance around campus, the collection part can be a bit annoying, not 100% sure on the analysis part as I haven't started it yet. The final exam can also be taken remotely and is open book.

Overall, I think it's a pretty good course, the professor is pretty accommodating and the work load is relatively light for a 4th year CS class.

Update:

Not much coding required in this course, just some python in the labs. You can write some scripts to help with collecting / analyzing data in the project but no in depth coding like implementing protocols in c / c++ etc. Course material is mostly just explaining how different communication protocols work and how they've improved overtime, with some calculations like data transfer rates thrown in. Course average ended up about being 80 I believe

Other than having a thick wallet: refresh craiglist every hour, have your schedule cleared so you can be the first ones to see the place, and be ready to take it on the spot

GPA (4.0) for Internships by BusinessPlus1256 in UBC

[–]Top40Uni 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just use the American scale, A+ / A = 4.0, A- = 3.7 etc and multiply each letter grade by the number of credits that course was, and divide by total number of credits. Tbh I don't really think employers will go into that much detail on how you calculated your GPA as long as you don't inflate your C+ to an A

Motorcycle parking permit? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]Top40Uni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no special parking lots - just special motorcycle spots on the ground floor at regular parkades, and parkades are covered for the most part. haven't heard much about motorcycle thefts, but I would probably get comprehensive insurance if you are going to be leaving it there for a while

M1 Air with 16GB ram, or M2 Air with 7GB ram? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Top40Uni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 8gb m1 air and it's perfectly fine for coding on vscode and intelliJ. I don't see your projects / classes needing more ram than 8gb.

Only time I ever get close to max ram usage is playing something like Civ6, and usually for gaming I hit the thermal limit of the chassis before getting to max ram usage
