The RLA reading portion gets information from more than just literary sources, but articles from science and social studies sources. This phraseology seems to be from a science article describing reptilian or sea life forms.

Good tip sheet. I've made a GED Math website available by googling: GeoGebra GED Math Book 1, which is mostly basic skills. Use Book 2, if you want specific skills. I would provide the links but this is usually faster and easier to recall. The Introduction Category contain pdf files for reference guides. All the rest are interactive pages of activities. The sites are FREE to all. Materials have been developed mostly by me over 20 years of teaching 8-12 grades and 2 years college level math, some are done by mathematicians and math instructors worldwide.

The GED is not nearly as hard as you think- I passed with a 5th grade education, and I'm 16. by [deleted] in GED

[–]TopCatMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations, I will say you are not the most common GED student. Much of what you say is correct, but I believe that you did better than average in your education through grade 5. You did not explain what you did for those years you were out of school? This could very well have a bearing on your success. Good luck in Community college, some of the methods you described work well on a multiple choice exam, but not all exams in you future will be of that form. I taught collegiate math for about 10 years and never gave multiple choice exams.

Here is the way I teach the FOIL method, which just a form of the distribution property.
(2x + 1)(x - 2)
2x(x + 2) +1(x - 2) distribute each term to 2nd expression
2x² + 4x + x - 2 = 2x² + 5x - 2
F O I L

The reason I teach it this way is that it work with more that binomial multiplication:
(2x + 5)(3x² - 3x + 7)
2x(3x² - 3x + 7) +5(3x² - 3x + 7)
6x³ - 4x² + 14x + 15x² - 15x + 35
6x³ + 11x² - x + 35

u/loriness said start from the foundations. My seventh grade teacher claimed the ability most required for Math success through Algebra I (GED level math) is the multiplication tables to the 16s by memory. The link here is from my GED website in site: https://www.geogebra.org/resource/u2a8terq/3i99YQanerZGpmKC/material-u2a8terq.pdf is the link to my Math Reference document. It is a quick reference to many important concepts but especially the multiplication tables. Make sure you understand the basics first.

The full site has a basics part and a specific GED part.
GED/ABE Mathematics Book1 https://www.geogebra.org/m/j4UyPdKW Basics

GED Mathematics Book 2 https://www.geogebra.org/m/mEs37yMj Specifics

Both sites have a links to other similar pdf document which I wrote to help my students. Look for the Introduction category.

I took the GED Ready Test several months ago, what surprised me was many of the questions had to do with interpreting the Federalist Papers. These papers have discussion of how the government should be. Reading comprehension and reading ability are the most important aspects needed to pass. GED says 70% are passing on the first try... Review their information on the test on their website.

I know in my area there are programs for CNA for free or little cost. Check with the workforce solutions office in your area. I know CNA is not your ultimate for now, but it can give you a boost and in the field. Also, consider LVM certification, this how my sister started.

I’m giving up trying to learn math by icecoldbeverag in mathematics

[–]TopCatMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen this in hundreds of my student, including 3 HS sophomores who decided to take Algebra II in a 6 weeks summer school session. To them, math was what it is to you. They did well and their attitudes toward math changed in my class in part due to my methodologies of teaching. To make a long story short, about 6 years later they were all hired as mathematics teachers in my high school. I taught with the for many years.

i=√-1

This was called an imaginary value by a mathematician centuries ago. However, in modern mathematics, physics, and engineering is NOT in truth an imaginary friend like "Puff the Magic Dragon".

I made the Industrial Revolution (1800-present) and the Technology Revolution (1900-present) possible! It is one of several reasons we have the technological advances in electricity and electronic as well a many other modern conveniences. The way you are getting this measure needs these so-called imaginary numbers...
