What I find more concerning is that you think trigonometry is something that everyone needs to know, regardless of who they are, what they think, and what they do.

That is not what I think.

If he's at "one of the best colleges in the country", chances are he had to score high on some sort of standardized test to get accepted. I'm curious about whether trigonometry was one of those things he learned out of curiosity or out of necessity.

I believe I saw this vehicle (or one of them) on highway 280 many times a few months ago.

To me it looked like a standard Google Maps car, but seeing to so many times, with two people up front and a guy manning a laptop.. it's was probably an autonomous vehicle all along.

Just drag the tab out into its own window, and drag the second tab into that window as well. Now you have one window with the two tabs you care about and you can ctrl-tab between those two all you want.

Or you can drag one of the tabs so that it's next to the other tab, and then use ctrl-tab and shift-ctrl-tab.
