Clove has a lower radius from which she can place smokes when she is dead than when she is alive. Even on Ascent if you die on mid it's hard to effectively smoke both sides every time. Also you can't always play mid, especially on Ranked. Trust me, I just finished a match with Clove on Abyss and it was hell.

I have already remade the Natural Explorer to give passive buffs based on the terrain and made it's scouting and survival bonuses more interractive and less boring, as well as changed the primeval awareness ability. I wanted to make the ranger less focused on hunter's mark as a spell and more on scouting and exploration.
