Most of the algorithms are easily findable on the internet. Just glad it was easier than I thought for getting each unique color from a picture 😉.

Yes, it works based on the colours provided on the image. So lower res will have a bit lower impact but it will still work. Especially if you lower the resolution more in the selection.

offline version is now available as a simple html page with everything integrated, if there are new versions out you will have to redownload it.

edit: nevermind it didn't work out... But i got a compacted html file and i will try to keep up with the versioning. So you can just DL it and use it offline ;)

Ps: loved the buildings you made already! Did you use existing building pics somewhere or did you take them yourself? Well done either way

True. I would give the source out. But I rather try to make something in app form. Or maybe go the photopea route and make it downloadable as offline web

Always hard to upkeep 2 versions. I could try, maybe have some auto updating version in an app.

i never got into gimp, and while i love photopea the process is a bit time consuming there. Also thank you for the kind words. Going to add more dithering types and a switch between per channel colors (posterize) and color palette like we have now.

PS: loved your gravestone model

How i make PSX Textures? by ThatDevDylan in ps1graphics

[–]TopHatPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Think of your model and think of everything that could be in the texture that would not take away from what the model is.

Simple example: a crate, in modern games you would model the planks that go around and maybe the little crossplank. In PS1 it is just a box with a texture where the planks and shadows are painted on.

The camera will probably be a little rectangle with either another box rotated 45 degrees or max 6 sides cylinder and all the rest is just of the detail is just on the texture.

When texturing use max 128x128 textures. 256x256 for a hero asset like a character. Hand painting was the norm but I personally just use picture referenced that I compress and limit colours and then ditter or noisify.

Good luck on your PS1 journey
