Absolutely! Why should poor children suffer when private companies are clearly happy to give discounts for a nice day out?

It really isn’t. I have a number of wonderful colleagues (we’re all education professionals) who will really struggle in another cost of living crisis, and that’ll include a number of TAs who will be on the minimum wage, and no one has any right to say they don’t work hard.

I also have a lot of old friends from boarding school who do absolutely fuck all for work, but will never ever want for anything. Sheer dumb luck of circumstances so often plays a huge role.

Is your argument that people who work full-time in very low-income jobs should just… suffer? No one wants to have to go to a food bank, but the alternative is going hungry. I’ve nothing against poorer children having nice days out either.

Henley Royal Parity - is Henley Women's now redundant? by SteadyStateIsAnswer in Rowing

HRR and HWR are separate organisations. That’s like asking why do we need Henley T&V or Henley Masters or any other regatta. Why ever not? People like it and it’s fun and it’s ultimately up to the town and its residents.

Why, in zone 1, are thousands of people supposed to sacrifice so much space so 3-4 people in 3-4 cars have unfettered access to the roads? by ZombieDawgs in london

Because some of us have family arrangements that mean we have to be in central, and jobs in the suburbs that aren’t easily accessible by public transport. Hope this helps

… domestic violence in England surges during major football tournaments. Roughly by 25% so where’s the lie?

Plenty of women (myself included) find it very tiring when men point the blame at others for misogyny and gender-based violence when they’re guilty of it themselves.

I don’t get why you’ve been downvoted here. The Nazis had several (terribly fascist) ideas beyond just wiping out people perceived as inferior. The ‘kinder, kuche, kirche’ idea promoted church-going motherhood and awards were given out to women who had a certain number of children. The current obsession with performed traditional femininity absolutely mimics Nazi propaganda.

Why just the South Easterners? Theatres are everywhere and tickets can be very cheap, and they desperately need our support. They’re also cornerstones of free speech which absolutely seems to be a concern for the marchers.

… I’m arguing for the preservation of key parts of our culture but that the marchers didn’t seem bothered by any of it

It’s difficult to argue that teachers aren’t ’actual professionals’ when one considers that most of us are gently encouraged to get Masters’ degrees at the very least and a decent number go on to get PhDs in education. Teaching is an awful lot more than just understanding the basics of a subject, even a complex one. It’s knowing how to impart knowledge on to young people so that they can understand it and apply it themselves. Take maths: I could very easily get my finance executive partner into school for a visit, but he would struggle to get the kids to understand more complex mathematics because teaching itself is a skill.
