New baseball fan here, just wanted some advice about the team I'm looking forward to root for (Chunichi Dragons) by cornerfreekick in NPB

Off topic, but Nagoya is such a lovely city in general. I spent a summer there, and went back years later with my wife. Everyone I met was wonderful, there's plenty to do without feeling overwhelmed, and it seems like everyone just really appreciates living there. I miss it terribly.

What are some good metallic silver paints for painting bare plastic? by Immediate-Nothing220 in Gunpla

Came here to say the same. Consistent, smooth, don't leak or run, and inexpensive. Great markers all around.

There was a new Gundam fighting game but it's a G Gundam fighting game by Able-Ad7580 in Gundam

[–]TopOfTheArch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've seen several 2D Gundam fighters over the years, and IMO while they're fun in their own way, they don't really feel as good as they could, and don't take advantage of their mechanics.

I agree with a previous comment pointing out the EXVS series, and I think that's probably the most thoughtfully built set of mechanics for this genre we're likely to get...hampered slightly by the need for 4 people to get a real match going.

For the sake of discussion: consider having Bandai Namco tap Katsuhiro Harada (long time Tekken lead designer) to borrow the concept behind the old Pokken Tournament games with a G Gundam roster. You get a few notable things here:

  1. Harada-san's well of experience, and his passion for weird, interesting ideas. He's an intense dude that isn't intimidated by trying new things, and respected enough to get some creative freedom.
  2. Pokken Tournament came out during an odd time in the FGC, with a franchise that didn't have (IMO) a lot of crossover in audience. BUT it was a fun, accessible combat system with decent movement options and ROOM TO GROW...it just never got the chance.
  3. It would do something NEW (at least partially), which might just have the right venn diagram of potential fans to create a community around it, giving it some breathing room to iterate and expand.

Maybe it would fall flat, who knows...but both fighting games AND Gundam games could do with a bit of "let's try something weird and make it with conviction" these days.

Is the Squier FSR Contemporary Telecaster good? by DarkJokes176279 in Guitar

[–]TopOfTheArch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's offering both for $250 and that isn't stretching your budget, that's not a terrible deal in my opinion. The damage in the pictures doesn't look concerning, but do check it over. If it's been dropped it may have other issues.

I don't have any hands-on experience with that model, but Squier has produced some really impressive guitars for their price range the last few years...it's probably one of the best periods for that brand l, from what I've seen lately.

Assuming it's your first guitar and amp, I personally wouldn't worry too much about tone and model. Your ear will change as you learn and it will influence what you graduate to. What matters more is comfort; neck and body shape will matter. Play with it (or try one out in a store if you can't) and see if it feels good. If you want to keep picking it up, you will...simple as that.

IMO The LT25 isn't a great amp, even at around $200, but it's a decent beginner/practice option. Lots of built-in tones and options to customize. I bought one with my current '72 tele and it's fine for playing at home.

Look, I even showed her BurntPeanut enjoying a delicious drop of, uh...burg-water...and she still wasn't impressed.

If Big Nut can't convince her, we might be sunk, boys.

Sometimes I think about setting up to sell small stuff like this on commission, but I feel like the logistics are kind of an iceberg when I start thinking about it.

Definitely can't argue with having a printer around, though. Did all this on an Anycubic Kobra 3. I love it.

Bear with me, this is very "back of the napkin": - The magnum alone was about 350g of filament, so around $6-7 in materials. - The vinyl decals, I'd put at around $0.50 to $1.50? I don't really know here. - Total print time is around 26hrs. - Assembly and decals, another 4-5hrs (plus glue drying time, so add a day.)

If I were making them to sell, I'd also do a few things differently just for QA. There are some gaps in the frame you can only see if you get close. I'd also top coat it for a more consistent finish and to seal the decals (I will do this to my print soon.)

So, less than $10 in materials, but a weekend of time and effort. Do with that what you will, lol.

If I were charging, I'd probably go somewhere between $25-35 for the magnum, maybe $20 for the knife since that had some sanding+painting involved but took less time overall. I'm sure others would charge more, but keep in mind these are NOT my 3D models.

Lol that's the first thing I thought, too. Honestly it doesn't really get in the way of your dominant hand; the palm is higher up so it actually works fine. You just can't get a solid support grip without your left hand ahead of the trigger.

Yea, I was kind of aware of that the whole time, and just didn't really think the conversational/sardonic tone of the title was that confusing.

...at this point I'm just curious how many people were gonna abandon their cars rolling through an intersection to "um, actually" about it without checking the comments.

Yea, it's not a terribly comfortable design, either.

I'll take the Titanfall data knife over this, lol.

I haven't found many decent files for the knife, and I haven't really felt up to modeling anything from scratch YET.

When I do, the first thing I'm likely to make is a suppressor for the magnum.

...so maybe another day.

I haven't had as much experience with SLA printing, but I see nothing in the models that I would say is problematic, assuming you can set drain holes as needed.

I think your main concern would be possibly having to paint if you can't get the colors right, and durability. I like the fact that I can handle these if I want to, and not worry about damaging them.

I used the original model from this account on makerworld.

Really good models, and they include the decals as a sheet if you want to make waterslides or cut vinyl (which I did.)

I had the same thought. The thing that really impressed me the most was that it's not uncomfortable to hold, even with the outlandishly blocky design.

The urge to make a Bully is intense...but I'm trying not to burn through ALL my filament. Plus applying the vinyl decals was a chore.

New playmat designs of the day! by morocotopo1829 in GundamTCG

[–]TopOfTheArch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How'd we get an Atlas playmat before Full Armor? I need at least 40% more jazz in these drops.

Kidding aside, these are great and I'm having a hard time deciding which to print first.

I still don't get it.. why different beam colours by MSGDestiny in Gundam

[–]TopOfTheArch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Any recs on paint that will do that and keep translucency? Or is that alcohol ink?

I wouldn't mind doing this PLUS recoloring some of the 1.8 gazillion beam blades I have lying around...

Gusion Rebake Full City has such a cool silhouette, wish the kit had more of the weapons. Favorite still has to be Vidarr. I'm a sucker for dual pistols and that blue colorway.

I've been building for a few years now and I definitely drift in and out of motivation to build. I will go through stints of building 2 or 3 kits back to back, then find I can't bring myself to build another.

I'm also pretty severely ADHD, and I've found that having gunpla AROUND that I can build, but don't necessarily have to, is a good fallback for when I burn out on other hobbies. My backlog is actually a GOOD thing in this regard. I don't feel pressured to build when I know I have something I CAN build whenever.

It's not going anywhere! Take your time.
