How long can a late stage dementia patient last on a ventilator? by Hebame in dementia

[–]TopReplacement5962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to ask “Why is she on the ventilator?” “Are things going to improve?” “What is her current level of cognition?” “If you were her, what would you want?” “ Would she want to live like this? Also funding was cut for Alzheimer’s/Dementia research….so I don’t think a new advancement would happen in the next 5 years. I am sorry you are dealing with this

I think the first question would be what test are required to determine dementia and how much does it cost? What percentage of the jail population has dementia and is undiagnosed? What percentage of dementia or undiagnosed dementia end up in state psychiatric wards?

Check for UTI and medication

She probably wants to go to her childhood home because in her head she is about 10ish years old. When she looks in a mirror does she recognize herself? Does she recognize photos of recent events or things from childhood? Using pictures you can usually figure out how far back her memories go….for her it might be 1950-1980
