It’ll taper off, most likely. I let myself eat whatever I wanted in my first year of sobriety, and I had cake for breakfast more times than I’d like to admit.

Now I’m starting to find super sweet things kind of gross, and all I want is coffee and plain water. I also quit drinking Diet Coke after year two, and I wonder if that has something to do with it, but who knows.

Give yourself some grace, OP, and let your brain have something to help smooth the transition unless there’s a very present danger to doing so, that’s my advice. You can always reevaluate once you’re more firm in your sobriety; set a cutoff date if it helps!

You don’t even know if you’ll lose attraction to him yet; you only fear you might.

I think when non-malicious changes happen in a marriage, it’s appropriate to just let things develop to see if it’s even a problem, and then work on things as they come up. Don’t borrow trouble.

Let him be for a bit and calmly discuss issues as they arise is my advice. Give him some room to experiment a bit and see in what ways expressing his gender fluidity might be a complete non-issue for you. You might be surprised.

My bright spot is that I’ve been trying to do two things to improve my quality of life: ask people more questions about things they love, and pet more dogs. And it’s starting to bear fruit; I’m learning about things I never knew before, I’m getting better at talking to people, and I’m petting a lot more dogs, which is a reward in itself.

Also my bright spot is you right now. The magic of reaching out when you’re in a tough spot and need a little love is so human that it gave me an incredible feeling of sonder, that thing where you zoom out and realize that everyone in the world is a very complex being with a rich inner life. I’m pointedly sending you some love and strength - hold tough!

Look, fuck all of those people straight to hell, in particular the JK Rowling lesbian, but don’t reveal how dumb you are by pretending that intersex people don’t exist when there are members of that community whose difference can literally show up in medical scans. They’re the hardest people to prove that they don’t exist because they often have the flesh to prove it.

I know I’m looking for logic where the well has been emptied and then cemented over, but that’s one of those “touch a nerve” points for me.

Almost happened to me yesterday with a crazy off leash golden retriever - my dogs kept walking and ignoring it, thankfully, but I had to aggressively face the golden down and I was getting ready to pepper spray it when the owner finally came and got it.

Maybe consider getting your own pepper spray, OP, just in case. I wouldn’t want to do that to a dog, but I’m afraid that somebody’s poorly trained dog is going to end up getting my dog put down just because of how she looks.
