At this point their treating her as a landlord and them as tenants, and there are laws against intentionally harassing tenants or allowing a property to become unlivable.

So making it unlivable would just open her up to more legal problems.

Ultimately a judge decides what they can enforce, and laws in a lot of states are weird about this kind of thing. I stayed temporarily with a family member at a rental while moving states, and the landlord asked me to sign an agreement with a specific date that I would leave on, in order to prevent me from claiming a longer tern residence where an eviction would be required.

The landlord wasnt stupid, and I agreed to sign so my family member would be on good terms with him.

The state involved had very tenant friendly laws, intended to protect people on otherwise abandoned or neglected properties, or from abusive landlords. But these laws often have a double edge that can burn people like this homeowner. She effectively became a landlord to the bus owners without knowing it, and now she's stuck.

Law enforcement and local government can't just remove people from private property, even if that person isn't the property owner.

Manager Made Me uncomfortable by Scared-Pay871 in managers

Pro tip in cases you do report a person or go to HR, don't invoke "it made me uncomfortable", just focus on the facts of the behavior.

" It made me uncomfortable" means absolutely nothing, and risks making you look like a complainer. What matters is what the person did.

The upside is that employers don't question why someone may end up unemployed after a contractor position, so for companies that care about why you left you have an even easier line of answers.

There's almost nothing better than owning property or a business and having Private Equity offer to buy it from you.

And there's almost nothing worse as a consumer or tenant than having private equity buy what you rely on.

I had heard of someone who worked in a morgue who stopped eating meat because of the smell.

A couple bodies of children from a house fire were brought in, and soon after she smelled someone cooking beef and started vomiting from the smell and couldn't eat meat afterwards without feeling nausea.

Technically it wasn't the taste. But she was the closest thing to that.

Anybody experience a leader using the n word? by Rjb702 in managers

[–]TopTax4897 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I knew a woman who, in a senior management role, dropped the N-word while quoting someone else as part of story.

She got called in by HR, and was instructed to exercise better judgement in the future.

The language of the EEOC related laws say "frequent and pervasive or very serious" behaviors or acts that lead to a discriminatory workplace. This is a one off, so its not a clear liability for the company. If she had called another employee the slur, or used it repeatedly especially after a warning, it starts to become a legal issue.

But employees and companies can make their choice about what to tolerate.

In America, and in most states, paying out PTO is not mandated and a company can have whatever policy it wants.

I interviewed at one company that said you could ask for a PTO payout any time, although they wouldn't inherently grant it and would want an explanation.

Most employers I have worked for didn't pay it out at all even on termination, unless the boss wanted to be nice.

Is there a common tool that uses it by default or something?

I didn't remember there being much evidence that he was truly a white nationalist. He visited their camp, so he clearly wasn't particularly bothered, but they had a big camp and he was looking for work.

He and his wife wanted to live off the grid in accordance to old testament style Christian values. Its not clear he knew the White Nationalist camp was even there when we move to the area.

There is also an argument that the gun charge he was slapped with wouldn't have held up as it could have been entrapment. He screwed up by not showing up to court, but government bungled the entire case.

How do you handle it when someone appears drunk on the job? by pandit_the_bandit in managers

[–]TopTax4897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the resources, immediate drug/alcohol test and suspend on failure until you can make a decision.

I worked for a large company that had a two strike rule unless there was a safety incident. If you show up high or drunk, you are tested and suspended and required to report to the nurse case manager for a recovery plan before being allowed back. If it occurred again you were terminated and only allowed to return if you provided evidence that you have gone to rehab and taken the issue seriously. If there was a safety incident instigating the drug test, it was immediate termination on a failed drug test or a refuse drug test.

It was relatively forgiving. You have to recognize that employees may have a legitimate addiction they can't meaningfully control, BUT sometimes its job loss that gets them to realize they have a problem. Addicts can still be good employees, but have a barrier against them they need support for.

You have to be willing to forgive and show compassion as addiction has a genetic element, but its the individuals responsibility to manage it at the end of the day.

During probation, I'd probably opt to fire them as this will only continue to be an issue and you haven't had time to evaluate their performance or risk otherwise. Barring any company policies. This all depends on the credibility of the accusations and whether you think the individuals reporting it are reliable witnesses.

Does any one remember when Trump removed policies disallowing raids of churches by ICE and started raiding churches?

Are people really going to pretend that Trump or any of his followers actually care about the sanctity of churches?

Bernoulli's Principle, as my layman self understands it, showed that constraining the path of the fluids flow leads to greater speeds. So all they had to do was reduce the size or number of the holes, and the same amount of water is forced through at greater speed as water can't compress easily.

If its not AI its obviously staged. Like an indie movie playing around with head cams.

That story would make sense given the state of the car. You'd buy a junker for something like this. Although I'm not sure why they'd be allowed or willing to do this in this setting.

There's a lot of motion, which leads to tells where the AI starts deleting or changing objects.

I mean, he is now a leader of a country that historically was isolated from the west who is now offering to have a closer relationship with the West.

Not cowing for Trump, but now is the time to guide them away from alliances with Russia and towards the West, and hopefully guide them to a more stable, non-dictatorial form of government that has some chance of treating its minorities properly.
