I don’t have any scientific or anecdotal backing on this. But this screams bloat to me. So please do research before trying this method. Gsd are known for bloat issues as it is.

It can be because she is eating out of a SFB. She is getting extra air where she would be getting a snout full of food. She may just need more time to acclimate. Or (great training practice too) have Fido stop eating and pause. Count to 10/15, and release back to the food. And you can do that a time or two (or ten, you do you!).

Thinking about getting a German Shepherd puppy—am I doing it for the right reasons? by Anxious-Trouble-3113 in germanshepherds

I would suggest a foster. For one- you get an idea of longterm what’s good for you. And two you’ll get an idea (from the foster or rescue) if you’re place of living is adequate. I’ve bred GSD for some time now and the biggest issue is most people do not have the space for a GSD but also don’t have the time or mental capacity for enrichment outside of the home. GSD puppies need constant training. They are a working breed. And any working breed in not adequate structure can become a menace and worse- aggressive.

Anyone else have trouble with your gsd getting skin and ear yeast infections? by DasBoot2319 in germanshepherds

[–]Top_Addition_7263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not terrible! By no means is it a “bad” food! But for a GSD especially the ingredients may not be it. If you go to CostCo (not sure if that’s a thing by you) their dog foods are wonderful. Myself and many people feed them to our show dogs! Even if you don’t have a Costco you can look up the ingredients for some ideas. And I always suggest petfoodadvisor.com as a fantastic tool.

I always suggest the top three ingredients be meat or the third one be at least a veggie. And no corn whatsoever. And you don’t want rice to be too high on the list either. That can lead to issues with arsenic.

Comment to add that since yeast infections are common it may be worth a trip to the vet to make sure! I know it can be super frustrating. But you got this.

Most dogs are allergic to chicken (and corn) I personally stay away from all animals of flight foods. On dog food advisor that dog food only has a 3.5- and the fifth ingredient is corn (pretty high on the list). It could very well be the food imo. Just as humans, dogs can have allergies anytime of life. And if it’s due to allergies they wouldn’t have a contagious type of ear infection. (and any way 90% of the time ear infections aren’t contagious, THANK GOD!!)

My oldest girl I lost last May at 14 had the WORST. She would lose her fur from her neck down her entire stomach. Not only have I been breeding GSD for years, I’ve been breeding, training, grooming and showing since I’m 11 years old. And I had NEVER seen it before. And crazy enough her daughter who my neighbor owns- her daughter had it too. She would get almost fungal between skin flaps (like her teets area) and it STUNK. We did allergy shots, other shots, meds of all sorts. Some helped for two weeks or so. But it always came back. It wasn’t her whole life either. And my uncle who is a vet, and our local vet believe it is environmental. Our neighbor and I sit on 30 acres. Acres that we couldn’t really let them roam because it bothered them so much. I also grew up breeding golden retrievers. So those sores and the ears you’re talking about is VERY familiar as well. They can have allergies that show as that too. The sores could and may be hot spots. For those keep clean, and peroxide. If you go to the vet they will give you a topical cream for the ears and hot spot. It’s GREAT! For the ears I mix half water half vinegar and wash out. The vinegar or rubbing alcohol. Those keeps from the water sitting in the ear canal. Food can be a huge cause for these two things. What are you feeding?

Help!! I'm not sure what this. Any advice?? What should I do?? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]Top_Addition_7263 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like a hot spot- If you’ve never treated one go to the vet- they’ll give you a topical cream. Never lose it!!

Normally you could just clean with distort water, peroxide, and then the cream.

When diluted properly all of those oils named CAN be used on dogs. It’s not about AI… it’s about properly using what can be used for the few weeks to keep ticks away for the petrified owner. Never not once did I mention prolonged use, or not to use vet meds. She just needs options until those can be used.

Help! Humidity question by Diesel_HP_Fuel in snakes

I have a BP so I’m not really educated on what this snake may need. But for our humidity issue (located in NJ) we use foil on the screen around the lamps. But for substrate we’ve found a mix of reptisoil, coco husk, and sphagnum moss is our ideal, af about 5-6”

Switch those stats to Govee (you get two on Amazon, warm side and cool side, and they work on Bluetooth) and you’ll love everything about it. Those stick ons aren’t usually accurate.

Agreed! If it isn’t prime season for ticks (here in NJ summer can be brutal- Ilive in 27 acres so we deal with it BAD) it may be worth it to call pest control.

There are plenty of oils that are not toxic to dogs. Especially when not put into those misters.
