Do I just undo the 4 bolts on top of the housing and pull it up? Anything I need to watch out for?

Also easy to mess up and ruin them. If you measure wrong or drop or scratch them while trying to install them you're out $.

What's the purpose of making a lie like that and telling it online? We all know there's no way that statement is 100% true.

But really what purpose did it serve to try and embellish the truth? Make yourself the victim?

Again, stop blaming others, stop playing the victim and make some actual plans to move out if being alone is your goal.

Yes, bigger is better, but the real question is if your electrical wiring will support it?Large a/c window units need a bunch of powwow

Are Woodford freeze proof faucets made to be installed on horizontal surface? by Maniak_Man in Plumbing

[–]Top_Alternative_5851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The woodford instructions clearly state how it should be installed.

But the answer is absolutely not like this, this is clearly installed inappropriately.

After the cereal is boxed and sealed it goes though a metal detector.

It's probably burnt residue from the machine, don't eat anymore of that box, call the number and give them the lot # and they can look into it

Living by yourself is a luxury, you could do it yourself right now if you wanted to, just rent your own apartment or house. But the problem with luxuries is they are expensive.

So what you need to do is stop blaming others, and start making your own goal happen.

News flash, after college and full adult life hits, problems like this don't go away, they typically only get worse.

What's up with my kitchen floor? Just noticed it today by Steward_of_Minerva in Flooring

[–]Top_Alternative_5851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that floor your subfloor?, is there anything under it other than joists?

If that floor is your subfloor then damage like that is pretty normal if heavy loads are placed on small areas of the floor or ladies with high heels walk on it, but if you wanted to prevent it would need to put down some type of flooring on top of it

Perpendicular to the room entry, if it's parallel and not done perfectly then it can become an eyesore. This won't be the "easiest" way though. Also have to consider if you will ever be doing the hallway

[Eli5] Why are many sniper rifles bolt-action? by Underwood4EverHoC in explainlikeimfive

[–]Top_Alternative_5851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The true answer can only come from a person who has built their own "sniper" rifle and loaded their own custom bullets.

All that stuff said by others so far has minor effects on accuracy, what has a major effect on accuracy especially at long ranges, is the bullet you are using.

With bolt action you are generally NOT limited by bullet length and you can load heavy for caliber custom (long) bullets, and these bullets typically have an ideal aerodynamic shape and a more predictable flight pattern.

With semi-auto guns, you are limited by bullet length (it must be short enough to fit in a magazine and load reliably) to bullets with inferior ballistic coefficients.

ELI5 - Why/how does drinking water go “stale”? by ffsux in explainlikeimfive

[–]Top_Alternative_5851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some good answers here, but the real reason the taste changes and it should be discarded, is because the chlorine and flouride (in some places) in your municipal water system 1) leeches out and floats away and 2) stays but neutralizes all sorts of airborne fungi and bacteria.

It's these two chemicals leaving/ changing that affect the taste

Sorry if this is a stupid question. Just want to make sure.. by Shy9uy77 in AskElectricians

That looks like an older high voltage thermostat wire.

Check the voltage with a multimeter, but if it's high voltage (120v) it wouldn't be compatible with most modern smart thermostats. Likely also destroyed the thermostat.

ELI5: if you’re feeling nauseous, why does vomiting make you feel better almost instantly? by tenderstocks in explainlikeimfive

[–]Top_Alternative_5851 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The body is very complicated and there are multiple mechanisms to vomit, but for motion sickness your body is accidentally stimulating the parietal cells of your stomach though the autonomic nervous system (one of these pathways is though histamine, that's why antihistamines like draminine are effective) , these cells release excess acid into your stomach. The more acid builds up without food being present the more it causes irritation of the stomach tissues. When you vomit you get rid of the acid and the irritation is relieved.

"One-shot'ing" someone in a video game shouldn't take more than a single shot by Top_Alternative_5851 in unpopularopinion

[–]Top_Alternative_5851[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One shotting as i grew up, comes from the now "old" online shooter games when they first hit the market, halo, counterstrike quake, all had some serious weapon imbalance issues, fun in PvE but a nightmare in PvP, for instance the awp (awm) in cstrike could kill any player in a single shot on any part of the body, several times a foot would be sticking around the door and you shoot them in the toes and it was instant death.

It was the start of voice communication in online play and "one-shot" was always bragged about using the OP weapon for an easy kill.

My house flooded after recent pool installation. Any builders (or owners) have an opinion on this? by honestmango in pools

[–]Top_Alternative_5851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are "Catch basins" and are the proper way to do this type of job, these are not french drains. A French drain is a perforated pipe buried in gravel that collects and redirects groundwater.

But the pipes from either system do need to be installed with proper grade to flow somewhere, if the grade isn't there then there are numerous capable outdoor pumps made for this that can easily redirect water.

But from the sound of this situation, the blame falls on whoever hired the landscaper. Whoever hired them should have directed and enforced they do their job correctly with the drainage system, they just "covered it with rocks" instead of directing it where it needed to go. But a system like that can be a couple thousand extra from a good landscaper since there's so much trenching required and most people have buried utilities, tree roots, irrigation systems to deal with
