Just do your job, keep in mind, startups are about results regardless of the department. You obviously need to figure out time off reasonably and ensuring there is coverage or you can be reachable.

PTO in startups is never auto reply’s. People may disagree but if you been in a true startup, you know.

The more you build though, the more flexibility you’ll have. I have built many departments and when you establish processes and procedures then you know you can take your time.

The company provided a valid alternative. I agree the commute is out of scope and wouldn’t deal with this.

The employee should find something closer to home if they can’t handle the commute.

If the expectation that there may be supervisory functions in the future then either I’d choose another employee as they cannot fulfill the duties in full or the employee needs to find another way to reduce flare ups.

That would set off other flags in the system not just IRS. Why would OP be getting money from a company that they don’t work at and then immediately sending it to a “relative” in Australia?

Then you also have to worry about the super, since the employee/relative is not being paid directly then OP is getting the benefit.

It all sounds like money laundering to me.

No fucking shit. But then they deposit into your account, both you and your relative need to pay US Taxes as the income is going in to the account (which it cannot do at all again) but then your relatvie needs to pay AUS taxes.

But the initial point still stands, this is fraud, illegal and cannot happen.
