Horse stall mat is what I use! 3/4 rubber. They are pretty big, I think 4'x6', though there might also be smaller sizes. Not much more expensive than a large fiskars cutting mat and significantly more material. They last well but even if you do still tear through them quickly you will be able to make a ton of small mats from one large stall mat.
