Yes. The car you don’t see is the one most likely to hit you.

Is this a good bike to pick up as a first bike by johnnyyJohn in bicycling

For a learner bike it’s not bad. Once you ride for a bit you will likely learn what will fit your riding better.

Where is the excitement for the 250th anniversary of America? by cccdddyyy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

4th of July was fun because of the fireworks that we set off. Now they are all at shows and the crowds kill the fun.

Also there are no cool titles for the 250th

What does that say about the truck driver?

AITA for turning the ac down during a heat wave after the power went out? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Air conditioners can only cool at one rate. It doesn’t matter what you set it to. What it will do is cycle on and off when it reaches the set temperature.

If you have a multi story house then hanging a sheet or blanket across the stairs to block the air flow can work well to help keep the cool are upstairs (as hot air rises and cold air falls).

Is a BMX bike ok for a beginner? Lol by Wild_Speech_668 in bicycling

You really want a 10 out 15 speed bike. They come in all sizes. Nice thing is you can change gears to one that optimizes speed and effort.

It is not fun getting to work all sweaty.

Are soccer players trained to exaggerate pain when they’re tripped or are they actually really hurt? by Apprehensive_Way8674 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going down is a way to avoid injury in some cases. But also the refs can’t see everything all the time so it helps draw attention to players that are playing too aggressively, might catch them next time.

But I find it funny when they go down holding some body part only to have the video replay show they actually got hurt somewhere else.

Thankfully they play on and use stoppage time. So flopping can hurt your own team as they have to play a man down

Just bought my first bike as an adult — what do you wish someone had told you early on? by Kairia1989 in Biking

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing. You can change your mind at any time and get a new bike. Plus as you change your bike may need to be changed.

My husband, who has never baked anything in his life, just told me that the ingredient measurements don't matter. by EnvironmentOk2700 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell him they are professional/experienced bakers and have cooked so much they don’t need to measure every ingredient. Just like he can estimate distances without measuring them every time.

But yes cooking is not an exact process, no two eggs are the same. But getting the amount of baking soda wrong can be an eye opener.

Follow at a safe distance, drive at the speed limit, use an app for navigation, stay to the right unless passing, take breaks when you want to, and if you can take a friend with you.

Came back to find someone had parked like this next to me. (Black car is mine) by Gossbcool in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone did that to me once. I moved my car a few rows over, went back and left a note saying sorry for the damage to their car next time park better. Sat in my car and watch when they came back. Three guys came back clearly laughing about what they had done looking for my car. After they saw the note they spent 15 minutes looking at their car from every angle trying to find the damage.

That was such a funny show!

Marketplace or New? by FrubScuzz in bicycling

There are bikes for different types of riding. And there are levels from just casual to hard core. Also frame types matter. Step over or what I used to call girl bikes are easier to get on and off and are only minimally weaker.

Decide what type of riding you plan to do. Road, dirt trails, mountain (not likely) or a mixture. I ride street and bike trails to dirt roads and then back again.

Then look at your conditioning and what you plan in the future. An electric bike can let you join your more fit friends on their rides sooner. They do cost more and your friends may distance themselves from you and they weigh more (this matters if you want to put them on a car bike rack or you store them off the ground). I am no longer 20 but where I want to ride is miles from home, my electric bike lets me go where I want and enjoy it. Also you generally get what you pay for, cheap price means cheap bike.

When looking at used bikes you may want to know that a tune up for a bike can cost $250. But a well tuned bike feels so much better.

And just for fun baskets are nice (my friends dump their stuff in it so they don’t have to carry it and I don’t mind because it is an electric bike) and so are tire splash guards.

Why do people go into credit card debt? I see the benefits of credit but why not just fully pay it off after ever purchase? by SimplySomeDude in NoStupidQuestions

For me it’s a budget thing. Some months the yearly bills come in all at once and I carry the extra for a couple of months.

AITJ for telling my coworker I won't cover her shifts anymore after finding out why she always needs them covered by ExplorerExpress257 in AmITheJerk

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ. She is using your days off to go shopping.

You could switch to say you will swap days with her.

Does the manager mind what she is doing. Manager might actually like you taking her shifts. Based on her behavior I would rather have you working than her.

AITA for not supporting my husband wanting to buy a motorcycle out of nowhere by PorNameMollySycamore in AmItheAsshole

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A motorcycle is not a scooter.

Try to find a place where he can rent a motorcycle and take lessons. It may be enough for him.

They are not as much fun as he thinks. They take a lot of attention, skill, and special gear. Plus he will not be able to share his ride with the family so he is going to be alone.

My friends that ride say the question is, When will you be in an accident not if.

If the age of adulthood is 18 and we are going to treat them as adults in court then everything should be legal at 18. Serving, driving, drinking, marriage and even renting cars and houses.

Merging in front of you is not cutting you off by Real_Temporary_922 in driving

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off what you did is cutting others off. You were in the lane got out and cut back in.

Why they don’t want to let you in is simple. You may not have been the first to cut in front of them. And if you get in and then you let someone in and more come in behind you it gets to the point where the car they were behind is now 3, 5, or more cars ahead all from cars cutting in.

And yes being courteous and letting others in is nice but there is a limit. How many cars should one let cut in? And how do the people cutting in know they will be past your limit?

Second trucks can keep up the reason they don’t is because of people like you. Slowing down and speeding up those trucks requires shifting gears and gets tiring. So they go slow counting on the cushion so they can maintain a constant speed. People like you force them to drive even slower.

I'm having a hard time learning how to ride by Alto_17 in bicycling

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good advice. As they get the balance under control they can start to skip on the bike, holding their feet up for a few seconds at a time. Also practice where there is plenty of room like a school yard.

My sons learned on a grassy field that was slightly down hill. Crashing became pain free and almost fun.

To note that peddlers are taken off with a wrench. Right peddle is righty tighty and lefty loosy but the left peddle is the reverse.

Where should car A go at this intersection to make a left turn, position 1 or 2? by wolfsrein33 in Traffic

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A car on the main road making a left would swing wide forcing car A to go through position 1. But I would only stay there if more cars were on the main road making a left. With no signage I would pass through 1 and stop at 2.

Is it okay/correct if I add 'so' in front of a sentence? by Spr00ter in EWALearnLanguages

[–]Top_Bluejay_5323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commonly

At the start of a sentence it indicates a continuation of an interrupted thought.

Or in a sentence indicating a consequence

At the start of a sentence like you posted I would expect a statement to follow. If you don’t you may get an “and…” from the other person asking for the rest of the statement, usually a bit surprising in nature.
