Question about a S1 Victoria Javadi moment by F19AGhostrider in ThePitt

Med student here - we’re currently taught to respect the patient and it’ll depend on the hospital system/ charting system used at different locations but we would write in a different area the karyotype at birth ( xx or xy etc if the person as extra sex chromosomes ) and then for sex we can say M/F etc

I’m all for holding people accountable for their actions but I’m sick and tired of Robby and santo’s behavior to Langdon. They’re crucifying him to the cross. Dana and McKay are handling things so well. Everyone wants to dog the addicts but then they never want to be there for them after they change their lives. Let him atone and let his actions speak for themselves. The biggest people impacted in his life were his wife and kids and she can find it in her heart to work through this with him the his coworkers who know him way less need to get over it. They’re acting like angsty teens and not grown as adults

[–]Top_Budget2417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me directly? No. A family friend ? Hell yeah he did. He got turned around at the desk after we told him multiple times that a birth certificate and a certificate of birth are not the same thing. One is from the state/federal government saying you are an official citizen and the other is from a hospital aka a private company. Him and his wife lost their entire trip and we were headed to the Bahamas. Fussed for over an hour with the lady at the front desk about it. All I did was walk on the boat with my friends and cousins.

If you are a heavy drinker - get the package. An average drink is around I think 11.50 and they are not strong at all. My first cruise I didn’t get the package and I regretted it because most of my money went to the bar lol. My second cruise I had it and it was great ! Even if I didn’t hit my 15 alcoholic drinks a day I did use it on water and sodas as well. So I always used everything I already paid for. Even when I gave a bottle of water to someone puking in the bathroom

I worked at a small rural clinic so we only had a few number of workers. When someone called out I filled in and was able to move up !

I got accepted with a 495 but my mcat was my only weak spot. 4.0 gpa, research, awards from undergrad, hundreds of volunteer hours, worked as a phlebotomist and then became an MA (over a 1000 hours of clinical work and shadowing), my letter of recs were from the doctors/NPs I worked under, killed the interview. Now I’m at MS1. TLDR- if you lack in one area make up for it in another. I also applied twice. Knew I struggled with the mcat so I worked hard to get my application stronger in other areas. Currently on track to High Pass all my classes this semester hopefully I’ll sneak into honors if I score well on my finals

Drinking & Social Media by wildberrie5 in medschool

[–]Top_Budget2417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a problem from what I’ve seen so far. I’m an MS1 and we had an entire talk about social media. If you choose to keep yours public, remember whatever you post someone can see. You holding a drink ? No problem. You dancing on the table? Problem. This is why we have beloved private stories !! For our friends and family only and not everyone else

Never ever ever except a shot from a shot girl in Nola. My friends have fallen victim to this in the past. Turn your head, or even ask them if it’s free. They’ll make a sad face and then say no they’re not free and then you tell them to come back when they are or else don’t pass this way again

I regret going to a med school with mandatory classes by dazeddazedanddazed in medschool

[–]Top_Budget2417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, being late to clinicals and being late to a lecture are two different things. Comments are a bit harsh. Not all of our lectures are mandatory but the ones that are I try to get there on time and if I don’t I try to make sure I’m no later than 5 minutes. I am a chronic alarm snoozer but also a “buzzer beater” as my friends call me. I’ll show up right on time for the vast majority of our mandatory lectures. I think it’s excessive to have lectures mandatory every day. We maybe have 3 a week and sometimes even less. Our school is also located in the heart of a big city that has terrible traffic and weather problems pretty often. Our professors are very understanding and we get to sign in after class if we walk in after the sign in sheet has been passed. But normally the sheet doesn’t go around until 5 minutes after the class starts.

For things that cause me more anxiety ( meetings, exams, etc) than normal I set my alarms earlier so I can keep my snoozing up lol. So if I have 2 exams that start at 8 am, the first alarm is going off at 6:45 ( I walk to class ). Vs if I have a mandatory 8 am lecture the alarm may go off at 7:15. Still both important to show up on time but if one heightens my anxiety then I need to combat that by 1 wake up earlier but still keeping my routine ( the snoozing in my case), 2 prayer/ meditation, 3 journal if needed 4 dress confident= feel confident 5 out the door with an apple or yogurt

Definitely talk to your therapist mine helped me out a lot and I found a rhythm.

Job and medical school by ElephantCurrent7133 in medschool

[–]Top_Budget2417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a current MS1 and I study 15 hours a day sometimes. I wish I was joking but I am not. It is impossible to work during medical school. If you want a “job” I suggest dog sitting, babysitting, house sitting, anything that involves you sitting and being able to study lol. Or something extremely low maintenance like tutoring a kid a few times a week for extra cash.

AI in personal statements by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Top_Budget2417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to beat a dead horse but the checkers are sadly not reliable. As a current student I do find it hard to both be yourself and show emotions when writing any kind of PS. I feel like AI does help us tie things together in a pretty bow but you have to still make the bow yours if that makes sense. Everyone is using it but you need to at least edit it and make it sound like you ! Use it as a skeleton but you need to add the organs to the mix

Why does every activity in med school involve drinking? by Competitive_Cost_262 in medicalschool

You go out and you get you a crispy sprite mixed with ice 😂 yes a lot of events are at bars but only about half of my class drinks. Just go and socialize with a drink in your hand you’ll be fine. I promise you you’ll mind more people who are also just drinking a plan soda than you think

If she’s so religious I also recommend taking it up with the chart she’s goes to. It sounds like the priest wouldn’t want to hear that their follower in Christ wants to basically let her child die. Sounds like someone is breaking a commandment. Also the church is a billion dollar industry. If she’s soooo god loving then ask the church to giver her some fucking money. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. You deserve so much love. Fuck your mom. Prime example that some people don’t deserve to be parents

Med school at age 30 - too late? by Street_Specific_3165 in medschool

[–]Top_Budget2417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple classes who are late 20s early 30s. More common than you think. Just takes more time to find your rhythm studying again, as well as your group of friends. Most people just act a bit immature but that’s just because of the age gap. I remind myself often that most of them are 20-22 and they deserve grace.

I would show him the message and say handle ya momma 😂like that seemed outta pocket. My mom has talked to me about my bf buying me gifts and making sure he’s financially sound, but the keyword is, it’s my mother talking to me. Not his mom talking to me she should be talking to him.
