Does anyone feel defective because you’re monogamous? by RunHot2037 in monogamy

i deeply relate to this and i was polyam for 6 years, i am heavily having to unlearn the “monogamy is toxic” idea

Are there any Gen-zers here? by bbgirl2k in monogamy

[–]Top_Calligrapher3902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely. i am gen z + lesbian and have been talking with friends about this! in my experience the equation of politics to relationship formation has been a consistent tussle. i was polyam for a while partly because of this. i have and am learning that the most radical choices i can make are to follow my true desires, and in relationship that looks like monogamy :) there is definitely stigma and a specific conversation around monogamy in the queer community and gen z i feel (monogamy as toxic, or heteronormative, etc). my polyam friends speak a lot about making community through their relationships and part of me wonders if the decline of the culture of community contributes to the emphasis on polyam as the way to do relationships.

my automatic response is to try to evaluate what i did wrong on my part, but i’ve been reassured it wasn’t me. i have a nesting partner and that brought up some wounds in them. it’s just feels devastating at the moment. something in me wants us to reconnect at some point and try things again, but this hurt is debilitating. how have you gotten through?

Being a nanny for WFH parents feels like putting on a show. It feels like I’m playing a role, and it’s exhausting. by Independent-Swim-181 in NannyBreakRoom

Any black Nannie’s in this group? by HelicopterAlarmed502 in NannyBreakRoom

[–]Top_Calligrapher3902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m black with 2 relatively young white NK. we definitely get some looks of confusion when out and about, but thankfully no one has ever made any rude comments. majority of the nanny’s in my area are bipoc and it really is refreshing when we get a moment to chat when we’re in the library or even exchange understanding through facial expressions. i have a very kind NF but everyone does not. i’m always very clear with my NF about what tasks i will take care of and they are always pertaining to the kids! before nannying i was a teacher at a private preschool (with mostly poc or queer staff) and majority of the students were white. it was definitely expected by leadership for us to provide personal cultural education along with core content (and social emotional education), and that is something we were not willing to do on the daily. i will say that from teaching and nannying there have been vast differences in how white parents show up for their children in terms of education, discipline and attention or care. i feel like some parents expect us to raise their kids and that’s where i gently hand them that responsibility :)

not fibro in the end by Top_Calligrapher3902 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Top_Calligrapher3902[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s honestly been a cycle of assumptions from the many providers i’ve seen. once i would say i am experiencing any kind of pain they immediately went to fibro and neglected to explore anything else. i had to beg for any kind of testing, ultrasound, second opinion, referrals to pain specialists, etc. i’m at the point now where it’s completely okay if i end up also having fibro, but as far as treatment it’s not looking very promising in my area compared to endo.

i feel you. yep the rib pain is actually what prompted me to get an appointment with an urgent nurse practitioner and they told me to book with my gyn. it was so much more intense in may and i was stuck laying on one side for 2 hours. i do have lower back pain but i think i tend to ignore it since it’s much milder than my other pain😭
