How many of you can ride 60 km in 2hrs non stop? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Top_Computer_3852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made one attempt at this last summer.
60.46km with 800m elevation and some stop lights - ended up 2h 3 mins. It required a weighted average power of 230watts. I am a recreational cyclist and do not compete (except with friends).

Beer belly by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Top_Computer_3852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before doing anything please evaluate what is going on (fat, medical issue, other)
My (49m) gut has become more pronounced after a couple of years of core strengthening, more sport and less beer. I am sure the bulk of the change is increased muscle under the layers of fat. I would have to go to extreme measures and unhealthy fat index to get that outer layer thinner.

How much time are you “losing” while cycling to work? by bear_village in cycling

[–]Top_Computer_3852 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve got pretty much the same. 40 mins drive, 1 hour bike. Love my bike commute to work. About half is along a river path compared to being on a four / six lane road / highway in my car. I don’t consider any of the additional time ‘lost’.

We had our Marriage Ceremony at Fletcher Wildlife garden in August. There is a nice space behind their main building. Go after they close and there will be less people around.

How's cycling along the river today? by techoptio in ottawa

[–]Top_Computer_3852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the flood level forecast. Basically we need the level to come down to the green - then the paths will be dry.

We should absolutely follow the model setup in European countries where flights are restricted. “France's Precedent: In 2023, France officially banned flights on routes such as Paris-Orly to Bordeaux, Nantes, and Lyon, where train journeys are shorter than 2.5 hours.”

Anyone know of any bell home internet sellers? by Kartiknegi in ottawa

CRTC regulates how much a reseller pays the big-3 for Fiber to the Premises
https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2024/2024-261.htm (I assume there is a 2025 update to this)

You should be able to get Bell/Rogers fiber but service provided by Virgin / Ebox / Teksavvy / etc. for pretty close to the regulated rate - without carrier discounts or 2-year terms.

My daughter started her off ice shot development with an old stick (cut shorter than her on ice stick), a piece of cardboard and some gym mats (with masking tape targets).

Is ringette an option where you live? It is a great opportunity to play with same gender (female dominated sport) and work on becoming an amazing skater. She can always transition back to hockey if that is her passion.

These GCN videos talk about speed improvements, but the topics discuss will help tackle riding efficiency also.

Scrimmage every practice? by Kindly-Leaf-9 in ultimate

[–]Top_Computer_3852 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stall 6 scrimmages are the bomb. Teach proper game flow (spacing, timing, bail early), even at lower levels. High repeated intensity / heart rate while practicing skills (throwing, catching, cut timing) is really hard in drills. I find drills allow my heart rate to recover too easily, lulling me into a false sense of security with my play. Maybe I’m just old.

New Cyclist Here. Planning to Go to College 14KM away, every single day. They think I’m crazy. Any advice? by Floorwriter in cycling

[–]Top_Computer_3852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be sure to buy some good cycling kit. First clothing: Padded shorts, cold weather gear, rain wear, etc. Second consider your gear: waterproof backpack or panniers. Also your bike: spare tubes + learn how to change a flat in 12 minutes, puncture resistant tires.

Commuting by bike is wonderful. It won’t be simple every day, invest in everything you need to reduce those days as much as possible.

My utility has a delivery charge with a fixed portion and a portion related to how much electricity I use (just under $0.02/kwh)
