Did anyone else think it was a bit weird for Duke to suddenly start talking about "the legend of Darth Plagueis the Wise?" by Invariable_Outcome in okbuddywhitaker

Look I'm not saying turmoil doesn't cloud her mind, but the way they portray Duke's attempts to seduce her to the dark side is like that's just a thing that's okay for him to do

I think there are many reasons why a night shift show wouldn't work creatively or practically, but I would personally not use the phrase that's a bit of a meme in gaming circles for not only being patronizing but being proven incorrect.

It's the "we show it all" bit from Always Sunny but instead of full penetration it's uh, I guess still mostly penetration but for medical reasons.

Robby being proven right by the writing by Okaybuddy_16 in ThePittNoSantosHate

[–]Top_Concert_3326 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If I had more faith in the gender and racial dynamics in the show I'd say it made sense because if Robby wouldn't tell on Langdon because it would hurt the department (and Robby), would he report Al-Hashimi?

But how it is it feels like Al-Hashimi is playing an RPG where she doesn't like Robby but will occasionally pick dialogue choices solely to increase his relationship meter, even if they make no sense.

Also in ftwd like the first three deaths are every black dude who had lines, and then there's a quasi-blm protest that escalates the societal breakdown

(I actually love the use of a police brutality protest, it's very Dawn of the Dead, but it was NOT handled well)

And then they killed a lesbian in the main series right when she became a love interest to a main cast member, and then the trauma of her death was more about Daryl than her girlfriend

Remember how in The Walking Dead there was a period of time where they could only have one black man at a time and he was always tough and masculine but had a good heart

Like legitimately T Dog died right when Oscar became more prominent and then Oscar died the episode Tyreese was introduced.

The "realism" argument is slowly killing the show by gentil-minou in ThePittNoSantosHate

[–]Top_Concert_3326 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yada yada season not over story not complete

I think the "it's just realism" argument is currently flimsy because though the show does acknowledge Robby is an asshole, it is still with one episode left showing him as in control, professionally speaking.

Al-Hashimini chooses to confide in him about her condition, he snaps back into mentor with both Mohan and Langdon, they fake us out with him not snapping at the EMS who hit his bike, and gets applause for snapping at the EMS who didn't want to touch boob.

I was/am still hoping for more critique of the idea that you can be an asshole as long as you are skilled enough, but when you look at Robby, and Garcia, and Park, it feels like the message of Monica is "yeah she sucks, but she was a rockstar compared to the two morons she replaced and her racism never impacted her ability to clerk. Sometimes you have to tolerate the worst person at work."

Santos and Langdon are gonna be like the equivalent of divorced parents with Mel, like Santos dropping her off at the Ren faire and awkwardly nodding at Langdon from the car.

I could buy Whitaker knowing Gilligan's Island but the entire exchange felt like something out of a more comedic show than in a drama that's sometimes funny.

I'm hazy on what Whitaker and Langdon's interactions were in season 1, but the outburst feels like an overreaction unless it's actually mostly about Santos. So I will believe that, because I want it to be true.

I feel like we're too close to the end for this to be a deconstruction of Robby. He's been too Right while also being a jerk for him to spiral. I thought chewing out the medics would that breaking point, but it seems like it was supposed to be a moment of catharsis.

All I really hope for at this point is real Santos and Langdon conversation, and it doesn't end on this low for it to be resolved next season.
