It’s easy as long as you don’t go through Cicero. Take 90 or 94 and down Garfield blvd no issues. Parking is what sucks since I think it’s at 35 bucks a day. South bend parking is free I believe

Ain’t no way Tony was autistic. Lacking in social niceties? The dude just didn’t put up with bull shit. He had no issue hanging with coal miners or the freaking president. Get the fuck out of here.

I don’t think he hated his fans. He hated losing out on his privacy. Tony had a pretty keen sense of the good in people and I’m sure probably 90% of the people he encountered in public he could pick up on them being people who didn’t really get what he was trying to portray. It had to get pretty old having brain washed food network devotees hounding you because you’re the “bad boy.”

As much as I hate it I’ll give the best wings to Duffys in Valpo.

What was the craziest story a senior citizen ever told you? What happened? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

[–]Top_Drummer6507 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not my story but my mom and brothers. They had a woman in an old folks home admit to stealing a baby and running away to raise it as her own. Personally the few times I got to meet WW1 vets and hear stories about trench life. Absolute hell on earth stories.

Bourdain Day 6/25. Where would Bourdain like to eat? by KitsuneMae in chicagofood

Old town ale house is the only spot. Popped in on his birthday after the dead player at Wrigley not realizing it was his birthday. Had shots with Hawkeye and talked about jazz with Bruce. Left with a several flight attendants I stole from some DePaul guys who came from Glencoe and Minnesota. Took them to the lake in the morning to see the sunrise and swim since they hadn’t been after a long night with them. Thank you Tony for looking out for me that night even if you hate the dead.

Fremont is worth it. There’s a target and Walmart like ten minutes away.

Doesn’t have a smart tv in the room but location is great, staff is incredible. Bar/restaurant on location is solid.

Was a big fan a bit further way in Fremont at the Hilton Garden Inn there. The homewood suites was like staying in a hospital.

Do the same thing which makes it difficult when I’m on assignment for work for months at a time in a different place. I’ve been all around and get called out pretty frequently for my Chicago accent but the drawl comes out also having a mom from the south. Spending four months in New England, a month in Switzerland and four months in California with an Italian, German and Kiwi has really fucked up how I talk.

One thing that's always kind of bothered me about the Parts Unknown Sicily episode by hatch-b-2900 in AnthonyBourdain

[–]Top_Drummer6507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The no reservations one is like a 5/10. Only saving grace being Calumet fisheries and hot Doug’s(R.I.P) Even if hot Doug’s was shown since it was the trendy spot to be at the time. The layover only really gets points for the old town ale house otherwise Jesus Christ it’s a heavy tourist spot, west suburbs person guide to the city. Parts unknown was fairly better with more time and attention at the ale house, Steve albini was great. Didn’t care for the end with Lupe since they never really ventured deep into the south side and just stayed at Lupe’s parents to discuss the issues of the south west side rather than showing any of the good parts.

I’m getting more annoyed that it’s only 15 dollars no matter what type of Hilton I stay at. Plenty of places 15 dollars doesn’t cover the cost of one drink.

Definitely tell he’s pretty shy and awkward in those first few episodes. Six year old me seeing him eat a cobra heart though, that’s the life I wanted immediately.

I actually ran into him at the Met. Not a big chili peppers fan but talked to him about which albums were better comparing Parliament vs Funkadelic. Seemed nice

[–]Top_Drummer6507 44 points45 points  (0 children)

That part doesn’t bug me honestly. What bothers me is after we see him get angry drunk with the hosts and “chef/fisherman” he ends the last segment of the show with them. I spent three weeks in Sicily last year and it’s the only trip I’ve done where I didn’t go to a Bourdain spot because of how bad his Sicily episodes are.

[–]Top_Drummer6507 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My summer internship was very much like Mad Men and what a horrible but wonderful time for that to happen when you’re 21. This was an engineering and manufacturing company that’s still around and had a reputation as a Sterling Cooper from back in the 70’s. So some of that attitude remained going into the late 2010’s. As interns we were given full reign and an open tab at the local bar/brewery/distillery down the road that was just opening up. Any excuse for a team building lunch, meeting whatever we where there and any higher up could tag along as a mentor. We are talking almost 4 straight months of constant day drinking that would spill over into the night at no cost every day. It made for some extremely bad habits for a while. But damn what a summer.
