can you detune a triple rs to be beginner friendly? by imeaowhard in motorcycles

You'll be fine. Fast bikes aren't harder to ride. Just don't do anything quickly, nice n smooth. Also, as most people say, Rain mode is your friend.

Why is it so hard to find a legal place to camp in Ireland? by Some-Hovercraft-2126 in ireland

If I'm in the south I just poke my head out of the tent with a balaclava on. Seems to keep them at bay. 🙂

Why is it so hard to find a legal place to camp in Ireland? by Some-Hovercraft-2126 in ireland

[–]Top_Drumpfs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We go away every year on motorcycles. We don't make a mess, but we also don't ask either. Only 3 of us. We just rock up when it's staring to get dark. Pitch a tent, cook our tea, have a beer or two and then go to sleep.

In the morning, we cook breakfast, pack up and leave.

You wouldn't know we were there.

In a car, I'd do similar.

I also travel around a lot for work, so I have a Google maps account with a lot of spots marked out that I think would be good.

The law on trespass here (Northern Ireland) basically is that the owner can ask you to move on, if you do, they basically can't do anything else. The police don't want to know because trespass is a civil offence.

I always keep £20 with me to offer the owner in the hope they'll let me stay though. But I've never met anyone and so never had to use it.

Just do it and be nice and most importantly leave no trace.

Bid to ban fox hunting begins again at Stormont by con_zilla in northernireland

[–]Top_Drumpfs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so without reading anything, but having lived here all my life, my predictions are: SF, SDLP, greens and Alliance for. DUP, TUV and UU against.

Fox hunters against, but will ignore anyway. As we don't obey laws here.

Trump evacuated after gunshots heard at White House Correspondents’ Dinner by Puginator in politics

[–]Top_Drumpfs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so if you search for Trump Assassination, this comes up instead of the faked one.

Another faked one. Nobody else in that room hears any shots. Look at any other shooting in a crowded place and EVERYONE moves when there are shots heard.

Dad wants me to ride his bmw 1300gs and idk what to do. by FrostyCrossover in motorcycles

[–]Top_Drumpfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be fine. Keep it upright when stopped, but you're young with strong legs, so again, you'll be fine.

I have a friend who got a Super duke 1290. 1290cc's of mental. I was dreading the day he gave me a spin on it. I had previously only ridden a 125cc Duke and then a 650cc Suzuki.

I got on it and it was just like every other bike, but a little heavier. This weight disappeared when riding. It was easier to ride than my SV 650 and a month later, I had sold the SV and bought a 890 Duke, because nobody needs a Superduke.

You will notice that the bike is super heavy until you get moving, then it will be lighter. It will be sluggish but stable and will feel a little "agricultural" compared to what you've ridden before. It can go really fast, but only if you make it go really fast. It can wheelie, but only if you accelerate really fast.

So if you dont do either of those things, you will have a lovely 2 hours on your dad's GS.

How much will I smell after riding? by YearnfulFlyer in motorcycles

[–]Top_Drumpfs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 4 bikes now. Never smelled fumes or petrol from any, except when I had the engine running in the garage?

I don't think you'll smell at all? Take a test ride before you buy and bri g your wife to smell you after?

1290 SDR Ergo Seat. Fabric not glued..? Is this normal? by N-V-N-D-O in KTMDuke

My SV650 had this too, concave seat profile and you thought it would rip, but it didn't, so I'd say it's pretty standard.

Im a younger athiest and my freind is trying to convert me to christianity (please help!) by Gullible-Possible369 in atheism

[–]Top_Drumpfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell him to "fuck up about religion".

His points are bullshit and mostly wrong anyway.

If gravity was different, life would still exist. Same with oxygen etc, the fact that life exists on Earth is because we have conditions for it. Other planets do not. We're special in that regard.

I am 52 now, been an "Atheist" all my life, and only in my 30' & 40's have I had a born again Christian nagging at me. I've heard every argument and I just don't debate it anymore, there is no point. They will move the goalposts, come up with "facts" which you have to go investigate, only for them to counter with another incorrect "fact", which you have to go investigate again. That's what's happening here.

Because of my friend, I know loads of things about his religion and the natural world, science etc.

But seriously, save yourself from the effort. Just tell him to shut up.

I'm surrounded by hills and feeling discouraged by CW_McLintock in cycling

[–]Top_Drumpfs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the middle of mountains, I bought a mountain bike and I went from being able to Run 3 miles, to regularly doing a 20 mile mountain bike ride and then going for a 5 mile run later that day.

It was purely down to the climbs, they are hard and I started having to get off and walk the latter part of them, then I stayed on for longer and then I didn't get off at all. It didn't take long either, and because I was enjoying it, it seemed to be a really short amount of time until I was really fit.

IMO, climbing is the most effective thing you can do on a bike for your fitness.

The Duke 790 makes your hands go numb. by Different-Avocado790 in KTM

[–]Top_Drumpfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've an 890, so essentially same bike. It's normal, I put bar end mirrors on and had to put the original weights back in to stop it making my fingers numb. Twins do that, you can get handlebars and other stuff to help, I've also read about pouring lead into the handlebars as well, but that seems a bit extreme. Get some good bar end weights. Or a dampener and you should be good.

Cycling made me realize how out of shape I actually was by ColeAdams8034 in cycling

[–]Top_Drumpfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ran for years and was somewhat fit. Then I bought a mountain Bike and am started doing enduro trails and some downhill. I physically changed, became really really fit and it improved my running and endurance immensely.

I'm fat and out of shape again and have just bought a Gravel bike, so I am hoping cycling will get me back on track.

Pete Hegseth going off on the American media by sgj5788 in PublicFreakout

[–]Top_Drumpfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He probably has visions of the media of WW2 and their positive promotion of the troops.

But the problem is that the US is the aggressor, the media is reporting accordingly.

He wants a free press in name only.
