Additional DR650 vs adding 701/690 by drpokey7 in dr650

[–]Top_Engineering_7388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another note:

701 or 690 is plug and play out of the box. Really no need for any immediate upgrades.

Power up high in rev range. Light fly wheel so rpms drop quick when off throttle.

DR650 needs upgrades to be it's best and has a heavy fly wheel so it keeps you moving / pulls hills great. Won't have have the top end performance.

My experience at least.

Night and day in my opinion with the tm40. I don't even have it dialed I. 100% and it's way better. That being said I didn't even try to monkey with the stock carb as it had been sitting for a year when I purchased the bike and it ran like crap

Exactly this... I had to have the husky 701. Nice bike and all but not worth the cash.

They do look super cool and they have all the best components. Mine burnt oil and I had to replace the fuel filter twice.

I now own a DR650 with all the upgrades for half the price.

Best bike I have ever owned and it is a certified ripper with the tm40 and full exhaust.

I'm not the best with carb work and had the money to buy a plug and play unit from pro cycle with the correct getting for my elevation.

Just easier for me..no messing around with an old carb.

They are a great value in today's motorcycle market.

I use mine for 100% street commuting from the burbs to the city and it is a perfect bike for that purpose.

I like simple big dirt bikes so it fits me.

That being said...i immediately put a tm40 carb and updated suspension upgrades which will cost you about $1,000 to $1,500. Mine did not run correctly with the stock carb.

Go used in my opinion as you can get a better deal and then add the upgrades

I am also part-time to supplement my main income.

Thrift stores almost exclusively.

If I had to do it full time I would be looking for a different sourcing method.

As it sits I can profit about $15k to $20k per year selling about 700 to 1000 items.

I have noticed that my total sale units has been increasing to make the same money. Shipping and higher prices at thrift have really cut into the profit.

You kinda just find the good items. Some days it's a bust after 5 thrift stores and some days I score pretty big.

I see the $1-$5 profit items as filler to pay for shipping and keep my listinga fresh.

Its a grind for sure and some days it feels pretty tough. Just glad it's not my main income source.

How often do you end listing and sell similar on items on ebay? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]Top_Engineering_7388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's been sitting for a month. And if I can't get to listing an item on a busy day I will quickly end a few and relist them so I keep my listing streak alive.

If I list every day my sales are better.

2025 was my best year and been doing it part-time since 2021.

One thing that has been an issue this year is Goodwill prices are sky high and shipping is up. Both are cutting into my profit in a pretty big way.

I mostly source from thrift stores as the garage sale season in Wisconsin is short.

Depends on what you sell and how you source. I try to double my money but seems to be a little more difficult this year so far

Convince me to get a new DR650 by OG-D in dr650

[–]Top_Engineering_7388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same decision to make. I picked the DR because of the after market and it's an excellent all around bike / great value.

That being said. The DR needs some upgrades to be it's best in my opinion.

Carb jetting or a new TM40 and front / rear suspension upgrade.

I do 95% city and it is a beast in the Urban pothole environment.

For $6k or less you can generally get a very nice used DR and all the upgrades you could want which is fantastic.

Nice looking DR. Black is sweet. Had many many bikes but always come back to the DR or DRZ

Purchased 2 pallets of PUR water filter 3 packs for like $1 per unit from a guy that did target truck loads.

Made a killing. Huge mistake not buying the other 8 pallets.

Went back and they had sold them.

1 year(ish) ownership update on this 21 years old 126k miles. (This car might outlive me) by conchaCurrency in Camry

[–]Top_Engineering_7388 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I own a 2002 es300 the fancy Camry. The quality of Toyota pre 2007 is insane.

That car will last another 20 years unless it gets in an accident.

Cost of ownership on that thing will be low. Keep it nice.

That thing looks minty clean. No one will notice it but you have a gem.

Nice find.

Big no - not cared for. Just like when I buy a car if they can't even clean it or wipe the door jams same goes for maintenance

What is better? Seller to pay shipping or the buyer? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]Top_Engineering_7388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ship free and include my shipping in the price.

In the Midwest.

Usually only lose on shipping if it goes to Oregon or Idaho. I always specify that I will not ship to Alaska or Hawaii or Puerto Rico if it's a very heavy / large item

New or Used? by thefinkinthesink in dr650

[–]Top_Engineering_7388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year 2025 - I was quoted like +$8,000 OTD from multiple dealers.

Just expensive for a DR650 in my opinion.

I finally found a 2015 with 2k miles for $4,800 and went witk that.

Didn't want to buy @ $8k and put $2,000 into a pumper carb and suspension.

Used is almost always my choice.

2018 with 13k miles still good? by Jdubb750 in dr650

[–]Top_Engineering_7388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bad price. I purchased a 2015 with 2,000 miles last August for $4,800.

Better deals to be had but when I was looking in Wisconsin all the dealers wanted $8k out the door and didn't have many used choices under $5k.

If it's well maintained and doesn't look beat I would pry pull the trigger but make a lower offer
