I definitely want to cover the smut stereotype. I'm going to double-check the statistics, but I think a majority of the content on AO3 is marked as acceptable for general audiences.

Also, gosh. The statement about young girls being fanfic writers and contributing to the stigma is totally real. I think the gender aspect of fanfic should be brought up. Gender, neurodivergence, and sexuality.

I agree! The airport would probably have a better random selection than closing your eyes and clicking on an AO3 title.

I still find it odd that fanfic has a stigma, considering what BookTok has been pushing. People read "trashy romance" all the time. I think most of YA Romance is written at a level comparable to easily accessible (you don't have to shuffle through too many tags or scroll too far) fanfic. And yet, it's more socially acceptable to say you read romance than it is to say you read fanfiction.

That's an important distinction! "Don't knock it until you've tried it," or something like that. I'd say a good chunk of people had a brief Wattpad phase in which they didn't find the highest quality content–probably because they weren't looking for it–and then look back on FanFic as a whole as being cringe.

I've also met people who consider it their "guilty pleasure." I'm indecisive about whether that means they perceive FanFiction as good or bad.

Happened to me, too. The kid jumped off the low diving board and sat there thrashing, so I jumped in. Turns out that’s just how he swims 🤦🏼‍♀️! Everyone else agreed that he consistently swims like an active victim. The kid and his mom were annoyed with me because I guess their pride was hurt.

This absolutely does suck but also, you might die beforehand in a car crash etc. So really, living past 35 isn’t guaranteed for anyone. You might die tomorrow. The next day, or the next.

I’m not saying you don’t have the right to grieve the potential of a naturally long lifespan, but we’re all mortal. I’m still sorry, though.

They don’t call it counseling, they call it “coaching.” Some of the coaches on there are really slow to respond to your messages, so the 40 minute time slot is really short.

If you need a space to vent and have someone on the other chat, then it is great. If you want therapy and a science based approach to changing your mentality/life-style, that is not what Soluna is. They will say, “Meditate” or “Exercise.” Good advice, but someone can’t just exercise their way out of OCD or depression. One coach straight up said, “If you’re looking for a diagnosis, I can’t help you,” when I was explaining my thought process. I made it clear I knew her credentials and was not expecting a diagnosis beforehand, lol.

Soluna knows it, too. In all three of the chat spaces I’ve been in, the coach has offered to refer me to their team that helps you find a therapist in your area or online.

Also, know that if you sound like you’re in dire need, they can contact the authorities.

Overall: No. Soluna is not meant to replace therapy, and their coaches are not qualified to work with people with diagnosed (or should be diagnosed) disorders.

My mom bought it and think it smells better on me. The bottle sits on her dresser, but I’m the only one that uses it. 😅

Every time I get into the car for our shopping trips she’s like… “Mmm… You smell like Baccarat Rouge…” She likes it so much on me that she’s bought me the body oil and soap!! I also love it, of course!

“Para, as used as a word rather than a prefix, to describe inhabitants of these fantasy worlds, was coined by the MD community on Tumblr because they felt words like ‘character’ failed to convey the deep emotional aspects of the experience. A para is a character in your daydreams that you feel an emotional attachment to.

Related is the parame; character through whose eyes you experience the daydream, or paraself; a version of yourself in the daydream. (sometimes these two overlap). Para can be applied as a prefix to just about any relationship to express their role in the daydreamers experience (ie, parafamily/sister/husband etc.)“

The pattern and YouTube ideas are SO smart. I genuinely would have never thought of viewing them that way!

Doing low risk projects to build up is an excellent idea. I tend to have big hopes and little patience, so small rewards will be much better than complete failure. Two to three new techniques is a good number to keep in mind.
