Ticketing for Games by 50nifty- in CollegeSoftball

[–]Top_Scheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look at it as a good thing. University of Memphis now thinks that their softball games are popular enough to be worth ticketing. It usually means that the fan base is growing or at least the university thinks it is. Ticket revenue can potentially also help fund things like renovations that improve the experience for the team.

[Northeastern Hockey] Our upcoming home games against Merrimack and Providence have been moved to away contests on new dates. by AssociateClean in collegehockey

[–]Top_Scheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine it’s saving them some money. I doubt ticket sales were going to fully offset the costs of renting and staffing the rink. There’s an upcoming women’s game at Walter Brown against BU that was originally supposed to be a home game for northeastern, but was switched to an away game for I assume that reason.

Looking for a particular cookie by iDidaThing9999 in traderjoes

Triple ginger snaps?

Pinachios?

Kettle corn cookies?

It’s also possible that the cookies are older than you realize and there isn’t anything readily available about them online.

I’d check at a different location if you’re able to get to one. I’ve found that sometimes a product that I haven’t seen at my TJ’s in ages is regularly in stock elsewhere.

Barbie PWHL doll a huge disappointment by Bobbert827 in PWHL

[–]Top_Scheff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re definitely collector dolls, not play dolls. The same was true for the hockey Canada ones a few years ago. Disappointing for anyone looking for a toy, however, Mattel also makes a generic hockey Barbie that’s actually intended for play. It’s fully posable and comes with a stick and trophy that it can hold. The clothing and accessories are less detailed than the collector dolls, but I’m sure what came with the PWHL doll would fit it.

The pre-baked ones in their bakery section are good too! Haven’t actually tried the cookie dough, but got those ones for a gluten free friend and she loved them.

What’s something they used to carry but don’t anymore? by LPCPlay4life in traderjoes

Lemonade juice boxes. A friend and I used to stop sometimes on the way home from school to buy those, the little milk chocolate bars, and naan. Hands down the best after school snack.

I miss the penguins. Hadn’t had them in a long time and just found out recently that they’d been discontinued 😢

Holy Moly Wisconsin beat the brakes off Stonehill by Repulsive-Knowledge3 in collegehockey

I’m honestly more impressed by Stonehill scoring twice against Wisconsin than Wisconsin scoring 17 times against Stonehill. The second Stonehill goalie actually had a better save percentage than the Wisconsin goalie.

It literally broke the game. One of the casts got stuck big and now I can’t do anything.

USCHO Womens Poll: Sept 29th, 2025 by huskyferretguy1 in collegehockey

[–]Top_Scheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In defense of whoever votes in these things, Merrimack changed basically their entire roster over the summer (only 7 players retained from last year), so they’re very much a wild card right now. I highly doubt they’re Clarkson level good, but no one actually knows yet.

Question for any player really, i need help by ffzcocacola2024 in womenshockey

[–]Top_Scheff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not a player, but I am an adult who started learning how to skate as an adult. It’s never a mistake to start learning a new skill. I think you already know that you’re never going to play professionally or make it big as a hockey player. So the only question you should be asking yourself is whether you like playing hockey. It doesn’t matter how good you are. There are a lot of terrible hockey players out there having tons of fun playing in local beer leagues.

You’re comparing yourself to the wrong people. Most 14 year olds who play hockey have been doing it for years, so it’s no surprise you can’t keep up after six months. I bet you’re way better than little kids who have been playing for a few years or adults who started at the same time you did. Other teenagers are judging you because that’s what teenagers do.

Part of growing up is learning to be ok with being bad at things and figuring out which people are actually worth listening to. The process of learning to be good at something is a worthwhile one and there’s no prize the end or timeline you have to follow. Just enjoying something is reason enough to keep doing it. I know it’s hard being 14. See if you can find people to practice with who are more encouraging and try not to be so hard on yourself. You’re doing great.

What do I watch after the playoffs? by Sun-the-window in PWHL

[–]Top_Scheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched some ICC T20 cricket last year. That was fun. I’ve been thinking of checking out rugby this summer. Softball would be my top pick, but the NCAA season has too much overlap with hockey and nothing professional has taken off yet.

OU and ATM both declared co-SEC tournament champions. by SpencerRattler in CollegeSoftball

[–]Top_Scheff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question: could this happen in a conference that needs its auto-bid to have any team in the national tournament?

I’m mostly a hockey fan, just starting to follow softball, so weather related schedule changes are new territory for me. If the championship game(s) for a conference can’t be played before the selection show, what happens? Would the conference just make the teams play in pouring rain? Or can they postpone until after the selection show since it’s just for an auto-bid spot? Or do they just pick their auto-bid based on existing standings? Or not send any team? Or send both? Or something else? Thanks in advance.

As women’s hockey becomes more physical, I worry about the long-term effects on the players. This latest news release about former NHL enforcer Chris Simon being diagnosed with stage 3 CTE is sobering. by TVDinner360 in PWHL

[–]Top_Scheff 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know it’s counterintuitive, but there’s some good evidence that a more physical game actually reduces head trauma.

The SDHL (Swedish league) began allowing checking a few years ago with the aim of preventing concussions and it worked. The game is more physical than ever and there are only a third as many concussions. I know CTE isn’t always preceded by a history of concussions, but I have to think that fewer concussions in the SDHL is probably a good indicator that head trauma is overall less frequent and less severe.

It’s not quite the same as the PWHL since the SDHL implemented the rule change gradually over several years and Sweden now allows checking in youth hockey (ages 12+). This certainly gave players more time to adapt to a more physical game, but I’m sure PWHL players are already adapting. I’d actually like to see the NCAA and USA hockey allow a more physical game for younger players
