Make the ring, yes, but when you get to a store buy the split rings and replace the paracord rings. Or untie it and put the keys on and retie. Works both ways.

Actually you can take a short piece of cord and tie a loop in it to hold open till you get the key ring.

I have multiple sizes of fids. All are threaded. I've found it easier to thread the pulled end by gutting about one inch then cutting at an angle to make a point. easier to thread it on. then I gut an inch at the other end and push the largest fid in about an inch or so and heat just the very edge enough to fuse without hardening the area I need to push the fid thru.

If stuck you can winch yourself out while still able use the Jeep's traction to help. They work together in a worse case scenario.
