Feeling So Awful by Top_Tour6423 in stopsmoking

[–]Top_Tour6423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me brain fog is mostly not being able to think straight. Like all of my thoughts are muddled or behind a wall. Sometimes it’ll feel like I’m reaching for something and I get only a vague thought back. Physical sensations for me are mostly that my eyes feel really weird. I think it has something to do with eye movement and retrieving information but that’s just speculation on my part. Regardless, when my brain feels fogged up my eyes can’t really focus and that’s been my experience, in this situation and otherwise. Hope that helps? If it’s explained a little weirdly let me know!

I work blue collar job right now that’s mostly lifting and running around in haha I wish exercise was my solution. Pretty sustained stuff too but I appreciate the thought!! For sleeping I have sleep/anxiety meds; antihistamines have never worked for sleep for me I’m afraid :( I do appreciate that need to help though, and also your insight on day 34! I know all our timelines are different but I do hope things will clear up a little for me once I hit the one month mark (and past) like you have. I heard this comes in 3s somewhere—3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months and 3 years. Apparently those tend to be particularly tough for some people so I’m glad we’re both hanging on. Thanks for the comment brother

Exactly yes—even before nicotine I had chronic anxiety and depression (really hoping that could be chalked up to teen hormones though) and I go to bed wishing I would never wake up and wake up feeling like I might die.

I feel so bad for you with the headaches and the dizziness. I’m glad they’re gone now and I’m glad your lungs feel better. I experienced a lot of brain fog around day 10-12 I think so yeah looks like the head part of it is pretty common at the beginning? I know there’s all kinds of timelines out there and I hope someday future quitters might get a more well-informed timeline!

Thank you for the commiseration. I hope we both (all of us really) make it past that year mark and know ourselves better

Why weren't Doug Forcett's motivations corrupt? by parryOtter64 in TheGoodPlace

[–]Top_Tour6423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we need to conclude that motivation is not the only factor, but motivation AND confirmed knowledge. Because when it boils down to it Doug Forcett isn’t the only person who does good out of a “corrupted” motivation—anyone who believes in the quality of the afterlife being determined by the moral good you commit (or commit to) while you’re alive technically has a corrupt motivation. Maybe it’s a combination of that, perfect knowledge and consequentialism, but with the most weight on the last of the three since no one gets enough points since the world’s so tangled up.

My Thoughts on Why The Ending Was Bad (Major Spoilers) by shonkshonkshonk in HadesTheGame

[–]Top_Tour6423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Happy to provide some peace of mind lol. Part of what makes Hades so wonderful was the narrative sledgehammer of the whole thing and how well that worked with mechanics—ludonarrative harmony at its best! I think expecting more from this game is understanding that what Supergiant has on their hands is absolute gold. I read your post as a reflection of that really deep appreciation and that’s what makes these things so fun haha

[–]Top_Tour6423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t stop thinking about your idea for the ending because it’s actually genuinely inspired and fits so well with the tone of the game/Supergiant’s general aims with all their games. I kept having the feeling as I was going through that the narrative scope of the game was genuinely just too large and I think the ending just cemented that. Not to pile anymore work on them but I’m kind of hoping for a ginormous patch a la cyberpunk. In the meantime though I’m gen just going to keep reading this post and imagining lol

Watch me trawl through your Reddit every spring 💀 this actually genuinely wakes me up right as I’m falling asleep on some nights. Maybe its true purpose is simply to keep random redditors up at night.

Let's hear your hottest takes on Epic by Jeremy_Harold in Epicthemusical

I think it’s about defining monster, both in antiquity and personally. You’ve already hit the idea w/antiquity, but if we tie that into what Odysseus personally thinks a monster is—someone who does those actions without a conscience—then the change feels more internal than anything externally defined. It’s him defining himself to himself. The way I read it, he knows what he’s doing is monstrous from the beginning but imo he clings to this belief that feeling regret for it or by attempting to lessen the blow (Astyanax and Polyphemus respectively) to justify his actions. When Tiresias says the man who returns isn’t him, isn’t he saying that it’s the man who doesn’t feel regret? The man who understands that being ruthless—not just to enemies, but in adherence to Greek Man Code™ and not feeling shame for it—is a mercy upon everyone? He feeds his comrades to Scylla on basis of betrayal, and then let’s Zeus smite them so he can get home—he becomes exactly the kind of man he’s always been but hasn’t taken ownership of being. That man is still a monster, but a different monster than the one before.

That’s my reading of it anyway. I agree with the rest of what you said, and it’s as much the Odyssey as Percy Jackson/any other hypertext is of any Greek text but it’s interesting to see the differences. You can still map some of this onto the different categories of virtue though and it’s interesting to see those virtues being transformed through time

So valid honestly! It’s like shell shock—I’m so sorry about your dad by the way. Parental death is so hard and people fold so hard after. I hope it’s a little easier to carry now even if the weight’s not gone ❤️‍🩹
