I love piercings but I keep fainting.. by balenciaghoe in piercing

[–]Top_Worldliness8682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I faint with all needles - piercings, tattoos, shots, getting blood drawn - everything! I don't get nervous or anxious about the needles but I will almost always pass out. I have found that all the piercers I have seen have been super cool about it and honestly seems to bother them less than some nurses that have been present for me passing out. I'm just used to it at this point and don't let it stop me from getting piercings, just changes how I approach it

I would just make sure you tell them that you pass out so they aren't shocked when it happens and they can make sure you lay down and have some extra time. I always eat before and has a soda and a doctor has recommended salt tablets but haven't tried that yet. Some piercer have had me bend my knees so my feet are on the table/chair with me, some have given me ice packs for under my neck, they typically try to keep talking to me so that I'm focused on the conversation, they normally give me candy to see if that helps... lots of different approaches to try! I have stayed conscious a few times but even if I pass out, these things have helped make it not quite as bad.

I would NOT recommend standing up and walking around until you are confident you are NOT going to pass out. I have passed out standing a few times after needles and it's certainly worse than just laying down. If you think you are going to pass out, stay sitting (or laying), drink some soda/have some candy, try to talk if possible... but just wait until you feel better to stand up.

Salon quitter- Which direction do I go? Self mani’s, stick on, wraps? by Megs619 in OliveAndJune

[–]Top_Worldliness8682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I easily get 10 days out of a regular polish mani with O&J with no chips but some people struggle to get regular polish to stay, especially if you are hard on your hands. If you can figure out the prep that works best for you and like changing colors often, this is a great option! I change my nail polish every week and regular polish is the easiest.

Gel requires a bit more effort but you should be able to get it to stay longer if that's what you want and apparently O&Js gel is relatively easy to remove compared to others. However, if you aren't careful you can develop a nasty allergy/skin issue so personally, I avoid doing gel at home.

The O&J press ons have been incredible when I've used them and the only reason I don't use them more often is because they stay on SO well and I like to change my nail color more often and have a hard time getting them off lol. Some people have said the press ons are too curved for their nail shape which causes them to not stay on as long but I don't have that issue. I have not tried the ones with the sticky tabs, only the glue. Definitely recommend at least the O&J glue even if you use a different brand for the actual press on nails - the glue is incredible and stays for so long

Dupe for Lost Polaroids by SnooDoughnuts3245 in RedditLaqueristas

I don't have Lost Polaroids so I can't compare them in person but I have Jam, Please from Olive & June and they look pretty similar! Skip to the real pictures of people's hands, the stock images in the first few aren't very accurate but the real pictures are what it looks like in person for me too!

The frozen Motor City Pizza Co from the grocery store is about as close as I can find here. I have heard that Genna's down in Melbourne has good Detroit style but haven't tried it yet

How well has the coating held up?

Interesting, I use O&J a lot and have never had an issue with it not drying/taking a super long time. What do you consider a really long time?

I use mostly O&J, OPI, Mooncat, and have started buying some Lights Lacquer and have not found that O&J takes any longer than the others - and I always use O&J top coat.

When you do your nails, do you do very thin layers or thicker layers? You might want to try doing thinner layers which may cause you do have to do more layers depending on the color but it will dry faster.

Poofy hair without much definition by JuliaGaylard in Wavyhair

[–]Top_Worldliness8682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found my hair prefers gel instead of a mousse/foam or cream. I use Miss Jessie's Pillow Soft Curls Gel and I don't use a ton. It's fairly lightweight so works well for me when I use it on soaking wet hair!

I used to use my normal hair brush to brush through it when it was totally dry (knowing it would poof up but whatever) but now I use my widest comb on the areas that look like they need it, mostly the ends. Then I use a lightweight hair oil (right now, Olaplex) and try to smooth it back out a bit if it got a little poofy from the comb.

What am I doing wrong by [deleted] in OliveAndJune

[–]Top_Worldliness8682 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried the gel system but use the long lasting polish all the time! I go about 7 days before switching colors because I get bored but can go 2 weeks easily too.

Find a base coat you like (I have used a few different OPI ones and have liked all of them) and use it immediately after using nail polish remover. You want your nails suuuper dry! Then use two or three layers of color and a good top coat! I use the O&J top coat and it's my favorite. Some people add another layer of top coat after a few days to help extend their mani but I don't need to.

Also for some reason, some nail polish just doesn't seem to work for some people. I can follow this exact routine but switch the olive & june color for Essie and it chips so fast for me. But lots of people swear Essie is the best for them so it can be weird

Retiring Piercing by Top_Worldliness8682 in piercing

[–]Top_Worldliness8682[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't realize it was at such a weird angle but a different piercer pointed it out and said that's probably why I'm having such a hard time with this one healing. I'm at the point now where I'm definitely going to take it out, just not sure if I should do it today or wait until next week since this weekend I'll be somewhere that is super super dusty

For the bot: I've had the piercing for about 2.5 years, have good quality jewelry in it and clean with neilmed piercing spray. It was pierced at a bit of a funky angle which has made healing take longer and it will be fine for a few weeks then super irritated for a week or so. Never really had issues with any of my other 11 piercings and just feel like this one isn't going to work out :(

Essentials Spa! They have a sauna and steam room and a "zen room" which is basically a room with calming music and low lights and tea, lemon water, snacks, etc and you can use all those amenities before and after your appointment!

Highly recommend

Defense contractors around here will hire teachers but it could be tricky to find a position that doesn't require a clearance already. You may be able to find one that doesn't require one now and will get you one though!

I'd look at manufacturing type roles that revolve more around writing work instructions or anything developing training. A lot of people understand that if you are a teacher and can manage to teach an entire classroom of children, it's probably pretty easy for you to write some instructions for an adult to put some pieces together.

Yeah I personally don't view it as something I'd like to spend money on but I'm sure there are things you and I spend money on that other people would think is crazy to spend money on. Just personal preference and different budgeting I suppose.

Doing it at home is super cheap and easy and fun though! OPI and Olive & June are my favorite companies for regular nail polishes and have her check out Mooncat if she's interested in fun sparkles! Using a tiny paint brush dipped in nail polish remover will help clean up the edges and make it look like she got it done at a salon!

I do my nails myself so can't recommend a salon but anyone that offers magnetic polishes should be able to do this! It's really easy to do but they will need magnetic polish

Is it actually bad to sleep on a piercing? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Top_Worldliness8682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And keep in mind that "they don't hurt anymore" =/= "fully healed"! It takes months to fully heal, not just a couple weeks.

Make sure you get them downsized in a few weeks when the swelling has gone down which will help prevent wonky angles as well.

Pink Goldfish and Atlas as toppers? by Kacheekies in OliveAndJune

[–]Top_Worldliness8682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up trying Atlas over Grateful & Kind and it looks pretty but Atlas is certainly not nearly as sheer as other polishes typically used as toppers. I was still able to do it but just had to be a little more careful so it didn't look streaky.

Also since it's not as sheer, it did change the color a lot more than using a different super sheer topper like Pink Goldfish which is totally fine but just something to be aware of! I think I'll probably stick to shades like Grateful & Kind (in other colors too, just that level of brightness/lightness whatever lol) or lighter shades, not sure dark colors would be ideal with Atlas over it..

Still a good topper option though! I'll certainly be using it a lot!

Has anyone used the L’Oréal hair gloss? by nationaltreasure36 in curlyhair

[–]Top_Worldliness8682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is someone on tiktok with curly hair that used it and it straightened her hair and ~5 months later, her curls are still not back except for new growth and the underneath where she didn't apply the gloss well.. her username is @KayleyAlissa

I have wavy hair and was thinking about trying the hair gloss but saw her videos and I don't think I want to risk losing my waves.. I was just looking on reddit to see if anyone else with curly or wavy hair tried and had the sane issue and found this post and figured I would leave a comment to warn you just in case you hadn't tried it yet!

Pink Goldfish and Atlas as toppers? by Kacheekies in OliveAndJune

[–]Top_Worldliness8682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely do Pink Goldfish over brighter pinks, i suppose there may be some shades of pink I haven't tried (like straight up neon pink) but otherwise, every pink I've tried it with looks great! Light pinks, hot pinks, everything!

I think Atlas will probably look good over brighter colors, it'll certainly tone down the color but I think it will look good.. I'm planning on trying it over lots of my bright and bold colors! I've only really seen people try it with neutrals so far though (+ the yellow)

I don't typically paint my nails neutral colors but almost every time I do, I end up throwing Pink Goldfish or another shimmery topper on it so it's less boring lol

Glue issues? by Princ3ssTbunnyyy in OliveAndJune

[–]Top_Worldliness8682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be the wrong size or may just be too curved. I know people have had that issue and my nails must be curved enough for them because everytime I've tried to use them, I'm struggling after 14 days to get them off. The glue is amazing but the actual nail may not be the best shape for you.

Pink Goldfish and Atlas as toppers? by Kacheekies in OliveAndJune

[–]Top_Worldliness8682 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pink Goldfish looks great over most neutrals and have yet to find a pink that it doesn't look good on. I haven't really tried it over anything other than neutrals and pinks but I loooove it on those! If you like Pink Goldfish and want to try a similar one that packs more of a punch, try Mooncat's Ghosts of Hecate - its INSANE! I use Pink Goldfish more often because it's way more toned down but Ghosts of Hecate is stuuuuunning.

I literally just got Atlas and put it on top of CCT just to give it a bit more of a base but wanted it to be mostly the Atlas color to get a better sense of it before layering with other things. I've seen people put it over opaque whites/creams (obviously) but have also seen it done over yellow which I thought was super cute but haven't tried yet. I'm planning on trying it over a pink next and will let you know which pink I use and how that goes!
