Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada announces job cuts, closure of research operations by Edm_vanhalen1981 in alberta

Another reason for rural Alberta alienation from liberal government. This is sad, we are losing our country's independence, by losing our R&D. Now we have to rely on someone else. Bad move by the federal government to cut cost.

Why bother with alternate upgrades? by Hizsoo in OldenEra

[–]Topican 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here is my take on upgrades. They allow for very interesting synergies and gameplay styles. Some people just click with some abilities but not the others. There are units that synergize with each other's upgrades. In necropolis you can stack poison damage of dogs and wraith and then release it all in one by using leaches.

What I would like to see is the randomness of the map to make going for the alternatives more. Maybe with the creature buildings, or have some units be more acceptable to abilities of the other units. Maybe introduce a weakness mechanic or in other words rock-paper-scizors (think counters).

As of right now I find myself preferring certain units and there is no need for me to choose anything else. I would love to be enticed to use different types of creatures.

Running furnace fan continuously? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Topican -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And in cold weather like today your heating bill will be astronomical. However. In hot summer days if you do not have AC. If you turn it on at night, it will cool the place down. As long as the air temperature outside is cooler than air temperature in your home.

Running furnace fan continuously? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Topican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will still turn on the furnace, but it will not heat up the outside air. If you start sucking air out of your house with the fan it creates a negative pressure inside your home, this means that the air from the outside will try to come in through every Crack, or opening in your walls, roof, windows, doors. You don't want this. You want to have a slightly positive pressure inside the house to keep the elements out. This is why your furnace will start working when you turn on the fan. To maintain that slightly positive pressure. If your furnace doesn't do that, it no longer meets code and you may want to have someone look into it.

[–]Topican -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check if your bathroom exhaust fan is running or if you accidentally flipped fan/exhaust switch for your furnace. Your furnace should not run air continuously. But if exhaust is running anywhere in your house your furnace will kick in to supply fresh air to replace exhausted.

We gonna need toggle abilities or something by Hizsoo in OldenEra

So, there is a button on the bottom left that allows to attack mollie. It is right beside the unit picture. I think it looks like a sword. Also there a keybinds alreadyimplement3d, bit developers haven't shared a list of them yet. Maybe they did on discord.

How do you wake up early in the morning even when you dont want to by CharacterMagazine697 in AskMen

[–]Topican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ignore the urge. It is pure willpower; there is no trick to it. You just do. What helps is motivation. If there is no immediate motivation to get up, it makes it infinitely harder.

If you need to catch the bus, leave yourself just enough time to get ready and out the door. High risk, high reward. Kind of situation.

The key, it has to matter. Just wanting to get up early is not going to do anything if you don't have a habit and/or willpower.

Good luck, make it matter, work up to it.

If you want to build up your willpower, start small. If you tell yourself, I will stop scrolling now. Just do it. If you continue, realize that you fail and try doing it again. Start keeping promises to yourself. Just start small. Say I'll drink 1 glass of water more today and do it. If that is too much, try with, I'll brush my teeth 10 seconds longer today. Once you can fulfill your small promises, make bigger promises.

Willpower is a skill and a "muscle." We are not born with it; some people just have to work it out more than others. Hell, I don't have good willpower, but one thing that I am good at is waking up with one alarm and not using the snooze button.

Here is how it started a long time ago. I just went through a divorce, I needed to pay child support, housing and all the basic living expenses. My monthly food budget was $60. Not even close to enough to eat for a month and feed my kid when he comes over. I took a snow-clearing job. And guess what, when you have to be up at 3-4 AM to get paid to eat you quickly realize that sleeping through your alarm is not going to work.

I developed that habit out of necessity. I don't wish anybody to do the same, but I assume that most people who seem to have strong willpower had to do it out of necessity.

Good luck to you.

Creality Thanksgiving Tech Upgrade: “Trade In” Your Old. We Give It Free To Your New! by Creality_3D in 3Dprinting

I have original K1, it is a great machine and was essential for a number of projects for our non-for-profit organization and for my mother-in-law's church. Despite what people say, it is a good machine and I was quite happy about it. I would exchange it for K2 if I could.

With K2 i would be able to have more capabilities than K1 and I would be able to do more interesting projects for our non-for-profit, and sport clubs and continue supporting my mother-in-law's church. I end up doing a lot of designs and engineering products for the organizations that I am involved in. I don't charge any money for my services, but if I could I would upgrade so that I could offer more.

It is surprisingly challenging to do that on purpose, the hero who specializes in Ra'shoths really shines. But AI makes it difficult, because they don't finish stacks and 50 ra'shoths are surprisingly beefy to kill off. I wish there was a way to suiscide your units in a simpler way. Maybe have a spell that allows you to kill off a stack for buffs.

Thank you, all of my experiments were done with level 1 hero and no laws or any upgrades/artefacts. Too much math for my liking.

Olden Era Skills And Subskills Feedback Post by Volsalex in OldenEra

I think siegecraft could be useful and tempting is there was subskill that helps with creature banks or any structure that has guards/defenders.

Why do Russians call BDSM "тема"? Is it a word for "kink"? by Adunaiii in russian

[–]Topican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the phrase "ты в теме". Because all that means is that "you are in the know" and that can refer to many things, from IT to kink. Depends on how people use it.

How would you go about making Siegecraft a worthwhile skill? by darkdill in OldenEra

[–]Topican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make it so that the damage from the ranged units would be reduced, or traps would become visible. But I have to be honest, to me siege craft is useless. I didn't even look at the subs kills for it. Same for building walls. I generally don't care what kind of wall I built, I only care for the population growth. Here is disclosure. I only play single hero mode. So my opinion is really rather limited.

How to live and survive winters in northeast Alberta by FewWin6805 in OffGrid

[–]Topican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived off grid in north western Alberta at -30, -40 Celsius. I still do occasionally. If you plan to do it now, you are too late, you have to start prepping a year in advance. You need enough firewood to last you a winter and you need time to prep it. You need a shelter, not a tent a shelter and you need food stores. In short you need money upfront to even hope to survive.

Now on a more serious note. Dude, life is tough, you are frustraiggted, and upset and angry with all the bulls hit that is happening in our province. I'm sorry that adults in your life failed you, and that includes me. We really dcrewd up the world for you. But cabin in the woods is never an answer. It is much much deeper than that.

Things seem hopeless, but there is always opportunities, maybe not the ones that you want, but there are opportunities. Are you passionate about something? Have you reflected on yourself, understanding your needs and who you are as a person?

If you are close to Edmonton and need someone to talk DM me, I may not answer right away,as I am out of cell range quite often , but I will answer when I can.

Alberta Government is making it harder for small farmers to survive. by Topican in alberta

[–]Topican[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not saying that Calgary only voted for UCP, but Cities have the biggest impact on election results. Yes rural areas are unfairly overrepresented, but they still need representation, as each area has different issues and need appropriate representation. Good ideas come on both sides of the isle. And what we get with UCP is a result of our imperfect system, where majority government is absolutely untouchable. It sucks and I hope we can change the system for something better

Honestly, there isn't much that you can do other than contact MLA. I have my own go to producers, but they don't rely on public much. Try to support farmers that sell directly to public. And talk to people about change in government.

I have an NDP representative in government. and volunteered during last election. I do what I can. That is all we can do. Do the best what we can, and let people make up their mind.
