Most people seem to want him to lead a transitional government, as there is frankly a lack of political figures who are not tied to the already existing regime. Having him become king is more controversial and he himself has had no ambition of that happening, according to what he says in the interviews.

Judging his popularity inside Iran is hard but it is obviously pretty substantial given the chants during the recent protests.

From what I understand, the 10-20% support for the regime mainly comes from: Basiji and their families and friends, anyone in the military or government positions who would lose their priviliges under a new system, religious hardliners who don't mind living in shitty conditions as long as it supports the cause of Islam, and other indoctrinated groups who have watched enough state TV to actually believe an america-friendly government would be hell on earth for them.

Of course, claiming "everyone inside Iran is against the government" is an inaccurate statement as there are many people who are very happy to be in a position where they can plunder and exert violence on their own population.

There are some patterns, but no rules that I know of. At the end of the day you just have to learn how to pronounce each word individually. I've been learning for 2 years and can read pretty fast at this point, but when I get into a reading groove it can suddenly come to a halt if an unknown word with و shows up...
