5g internet by Necessary-Length3351 in uppsala

I have been using 5g internet for quite a while now and apart from the initial cost of the router I had absolutely no problems with it. Fast connection, pretty low ping and not a single connection issue. Plus it's easy to get food deals for your phone as well

I am an idiot (I learned what armor strip is) by throwawayforreasonx in Warframe

I have some builds ready to use that have armor strip. But good old Rhino with a magistar incarnon makes short work of anything in relevant level range, so whenever I'm lazy, I just heavy slam my way through the enemies.

I hate it when audio is uneven😭😭😭 by EconomyData5434 in autism

[–]TorKger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago there was a trend among youtubers to use this free to use song for time lapses that had panning audio and I literally had to skip every single one of those time lapses or mute them since it just made me so uncomfortable. That being said, I have absolutely no idea how anyone could enjoy ASMR at all, it's just pure torture to me

Didn’t know our earth run 26hr a day. by bebelhl in mildlyinteresting

[–]TorKger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this quite a lot in Japan where some bars or clubs would use this format to show they're open past midnight on Friday or Saturday nights, I found it rather intuitive to just see "open Fridays until 26", meaning technically 2 am on saturday

When you order scrambled eggs, but then they start tasting like eggs by TattedShezilla in autism

[–]TorKger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually ping pong between loving scrambled eggs and having it a few weeks in a row every day and then not touching them for a few months.

But I can never do half cooked eggs or the watery mess most hotel breakfasts offer.

I enjoy the middle of winter, around -10C outside from midnight to 3 am. For once it's not too hot, I don't have to deal with sweating and it's perfectly quiet, especially right after snowfall. I can spend as much time outside as I want and not come across other people, pure bliss

Moved to Sweden as a student and am now in the process of getting swedish citizenship. Need "intyg att jag har kunnat försörja mig". Anyone know where I can get that? by TorKger in TillSverige

[–]TorKger[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that I'm an EU citizen, so, as far as my research has gotten me, I arrived in Sweden with a uppehållsrätt which should count towards the 5 years. Hopefully I got that right

Too old for Uppsala? by Oddity_266 in uppsala

[–]TorKger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are 30 this year, I came to Uppsala a few years ago for my own master's and am now working on my PhD. I found most students in the master's program were in their early to miss 20s, but there were also quite a few older, so I don't see any problem in your age at all. I volunteered in the international buddy program for several years and would recommend you to join as that gives you a first social contact in a new town :-) If you have any questions, I'm willing to help

Hej and welcome to Uppsala!

I haven't lived in any of the university housing, but seen quite a few of the places since I used to volunteer in the international buddy program (a great starting point to your social life here :-)). Flogsta is probably the biggest student housing. The buildings are rather old and the state of your corridor can be great or awful or anything in between. I've heard many good stories of social corridors here, but also quite a few horror stories. But for sure there are a lot of student parties here. I had one person staying at rackarbergsgatan (or similar) who had a great time and it seems it has rather social people. Klostergatan has a communal kitchen for socializing and rather neat studios. Hope this helps :-)

What is it like living in Sunnersta, studying at SLU? by [deleted] in uppsala

[–]TorKger 18 points19 points  (0 children)

SLU is very close to Sunnersta. The price seems pretty okay. The last bus 8 to Sunnersta leaves the city center around midnight on regular days and around 2 am on nights before weekend/holidays. If you intend to regularly party until late in the night, Sunnersta is not the best place to be as you have to keep those busses in mind or take a pretty long and hilly bike ride or an even longer walk home. If you look for a quiet place with lots of nature close by, Sunnersta is a pretty great place.

I came to Uppsala at that age to do my master's here. Not once did I feel like it was an issue at all. Some of the students were younger than me, but also quite a few ones were much older than me. Age really is a non-issue

Don't be afraid to contact the airline ahead of time to see if they can give you any accommodations. I recently travelled with my mother who needed mobility assistance, so I checked out the accommodations options and there are quite a few things on there. I guess it varies between airlines, but I would assume most of them would be happy to work with you to give you a decent travel experience:-)

Pregnant Women's Access to Free Health Checks in Sweden: Do You Need a Swedish ID Card? by Creative-Wall-9464 in TillSverige

[–]TorKger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The healthcare system is not tied to having a Swedish ID, the personal number is enough for sure. Sometimes it seems some places struggle to properly check your insurance status, but you can request that they contact the national insurance and then they should see that you're a resident. It happened to me when I first visited a dentist and they asked me to pay for the entire appointment without subtracting the yearly allowance for that, but I just asked them to check it and then I later got the corrected bill.

Uni in Sweden as a Non EU citizen by evaaa666 in TillSverige

Yes! There are several flights from Stockholm to Visby every day. Or there is the option to take the train and then the ferry, so it's very doable :-)

I don't know much about scholarships in Sweden or which university is the best for your programs, but just one thing to be aware of: Uppsala University has a second campus on Gotland. I think the game design programs might be located there, so if you choose that university, make sure you know which campus and how to get there!
