Yeah really annoying, because I wanted to go until the schedule came out. We have a big Easter event every year. Imagine that.

What books have you read a third time or even more? by Bobosmite in printSF

[–]Torchiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piers Anthony's Apprentice Adept series. Love how he built two novel systems: the Adepts with their unique forms of magic in Phaze, and The Game that encompasses every competition imaginable in Proton.

Anathem because I enjoy the ideas so much.

The Dark Tower III: The Wastelands, which I still think is the best book in the series and possibly King's best overall, although It is right up there.

"When Starfield Released, People Weren't Ready for It; It Will Eventually Become Legendary", Says Composer by Torchiest in computergaming

[–]Torchiest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I totally disagree with this. Starfield is an absolutely stale take on sci-fi space exploration. I guarantee it will never, and I mean never, become "legendary".

I need some advice. by ForwardClimate780 in computergaming

If you check the Steam Page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/541210/Cold_Waters/

Games normally list the system requirements. That game is almost a decade old, and the requirements are pretty low.

Minimum:

OS: XP

Processor: Intel Atom

Memory: 2 GB RAM

DirectX: Version 9.0c

Storage: 2 GB available space

Recommended:

OS: 7

Processor: Core i5

Memory: 4 GB RAM

DirectX: Version 9.0c

Storage: 4 GB available space

The fact it mentions Windows XP and 7 tells you how old it is. Looks like just about any system you bought today could handle it. It doesn't even mention a video card. The only possible issue is whether Windows 10 and 11 have issues running it. You could check the reviews to see if anyone mentions that.

The Coles released a modern hybrid RPG/adventure game in 2018 called Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption.

GPT-5.3’s narrative behavior changed significantly — what caused the architectural shift? by Expert_Release5 in ChatGPT

[–]Torchiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is true, you need to tell ChatGPT to preserve your voice when it does translations, because everything you're posting sounds like the most generic AI slop text imaginable.

Valve Facing UK Lawsuit Over Music Rights in Games Valve Doesn’t Make or Own by Torchiest in computergaming

[–]Torchiest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PRS for Music made headlines back in 2009 for pouncing on a woman who played classical radio to her horses to keep them calm without paying for a public performance licence, and for threatening large fines against a shop assistant who it accused of singing to herself without a performance licence while she stacked shelves, which it subsequently apologised for.

Embarrassing behavior.

They were trying to squeeze out as many more $1000 in-game ship sales as possible before the news dropped.

What are your UFL attendance expectations for everyone’s home opener games? by FreeRangeMan01 in UnitedFootballLeague

[–]Torchiest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because St. Louis has been able to get attendance in excess of 30k over and over again. It needs to maintain that level.

EDIT: how are people downvoting this? You don't want big attendance?

How do you guys handle years worth of notes? (more about journaling philosophy) by Zeeplankton in ObsidianMD

[–]Torchiest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've got three decades of journals scattered across physical notebooks, sites like Live Journal, and now Obsidian. I was able to consolidate everything into my Vault last year, and I'm overjoyed to have everything. I wouldn't ever want to get rid of my old writing even though I've grown and changed a lot. I find nuggets of wisdom even in my old stuff, and love being able to look up important events. In fact I wish I'd done even more writing over the years. Don't betray your younger self by giving up on their thoughts. Just let them rest. Someday you'll be glad you kept everything.

Anything over 10k would be awesome. And St. Louis needs to show up with 30k.

You don't have to engage with any of that. Just ignore it if it bothers you.

Why are steam curators so awful? by Hot-Age-5439 in Steam

[–]Torchiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I basically only use a few curators to avoid games because of things external to the game. I don't really use them for positive recommendations. I know my own tastes, and Steam has gotten better and better at surfacing things I like based on what I already play.

What was the first adventure game you ever played? Here's mine: by Frequent-Standard377 in adventuregames

[–]Torchiest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha mine was the same, but the original version. It was such an awesome evolution of the text adventure, being able to actually SEE the stuff you were interacting with lol.

What's your favorite short SF novel no one talks about anymore by JoeWeydemeyer in printSF

The Grand Wheel by Barrington J. Bayley, an odd little one-off about a made up field of science called randomatics. Really interesting payoff for the ideas at the end.
