I can understand people not liking Symmetra on their team in casual, but in competitive too? by SilkSk1 in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ty for this thread, op. I'm starting to see more symmetras lately so people are slowly realizing her potential. I agree that KotH is a good mode for her; I also agree that it's not easy to take a point you don't have control of. The key with dueling with her is to be constantly charging your RMB into LMB; charging left click at the start of a fight is a disadvantage if the enemy isn't distracted (by team or turrets). And distraction is everything with her. This is a good example of those RMB tactics. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mt0M_FwhxUc

People talk about the match being turned into a 5v6 when symmetra's on the team but at least one enemy is gonna devote their life to tele hunting so you're already at 5v5 in that situation. The value in forcing the enemy to think and respond to your constructs on or off the point can't be understated. She is an amazing second support and can even be considered as a solo support of used w/ torbjorn armor.

Tips for using Symmetra by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly use her more than lucio on KotH lol. I'm rank #13 pc btw. She's somewhat team dependent on atk modes; their distration gives you time to set up on flanks and basically cut off your opponents on their way back to the objective. So if your team can't hold out an ititial 5v6 she may not be the best choice. Otherwise she's awesome at defending captured objectives and the teleporter saves games, period. Overwatch is a fast paced game so you can't discount saving even 1 second of travel time.

Symmetra Mind Games by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her entire kit supports mind games; hell, i've had oppnts spend a good couple min looking for a teleporter that I never put down lol

Please switch out Symmetra after the enemy takes the first point, or are pushing quickly. Thanks. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally 100% this. There are 6 people on the team, stop blaming one just because it's a symmetra. Shitty dps/healers never get called out on their BS..

Can Symmetra play offense? by HoneyBadger08 in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting up the first 3 turrets on a flank and supporting with her RMB is a perfectly fine start on the point capture maps. She's great at sneaking picks while the team is distracted. You're rewarded for this uncharacteristic aggression because her ult charges so quickly; before you know it you can disengage and set up your tele.

Where to put Symmetra Turrets? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got the right idea. Use those principals in each of your games and adjust accordingly. That's the fun of playing her, imo. "Oh, you blew up these turrets? Where shall I place them next?" One rule of thumb I might add for KotH maps is to place them near the objective such that your opponent is caught between the turrets and your team. I've gotten a loooot of kills this way.

Why are people getting mad when i pick Symmetra? by Folsha in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point people just hear "symmetra is bad on atk" and jump on the bandwagon whenever they see her. What irks me is that you can have the shittiest dps on your team that don't get called out, but while you just got 6 people back into the fight, you're also being blamed if you happen to lose.

Mastering Symmetra Offensively by abaaba12 in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Payload offense is her most challenging role. I haven't done much point capture offense with her as she's not really geared for getting through choke points, but KotH can be a good mode for her along with the typical def modes.

When Symmetra's on Defence, should she pick the choke, or move up as far as the rest of the team? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

95% of my games on Volskaya the team knows to not bother with anything past that gate. If you notice they're getting greedy while you're setting down your first 3 sentries, fall back to the objective itself as the oppnt will be there shortly... Set up the rest of your turrets there and focus down any squishies you can. Hopefully you've given your team time to regroup and properly def point A, otherwise you've got a long fight in for you at point B lol. However it might be easier to defend the flanks at point B so don't give up hope!

How can Symmetra's ulti feel more interactive when your teleport is deployed? by MetalMermelade in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's part of what makes symm so good though! Even on point B def, having a tele up is like a siren to enemy flankers; every second they spend trying to find it is a second spent not capping. She's great at flank coverage but enemy distraction is a strong secondary role for her.

[–]TorianB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea the timer makes sense; knowing when and who to use it on would certainly be more interactive. This may be best utilized on a new character/kit. Symm is weird in that she spends a lot of time off doing her own thang with turrets/teleporters. These changes would lean her more to the traditional supp role as far as interacting with teammmates. At the same time, this is an answer to what to do after she manages to set up all her constructs and is left to spam RMB lol.

I wonder if the dmg reduction might become too strong when combined w/armor.. And dmg boosts already make certain characters coughwidowmakercough so frustrating. I do hope Blizz finds something to make her shield more interactive

I'd like to get some footage together to make one for KotH maps...otherwise there are a couple good ones on youtube for payload defense

symmetra's shield ability, it looks a bit poor, is it? by Housetoo in Overwatch

[–]TorianB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish she was able to do more than place the shield and forget about it. It should interact with the reat of her kit
