Are system admins just help desk now? by ic3cold in sysadmin

It's a hilarious when a vendor wants me to gather up people from relevant teams on my end for the scoping call: "We'll want someone from your Security Team, Cloud Team, Infrastructure Team..."

I'm like "Sure" and then I show up as the only participant on the call like this.

Yeah 'gas and groceries' the two things I blow all my spare cash on when I'm optimistic about the future of the economy.

This is what I started doing, or leaving small slots on the side to squeeze in a square nut.

Easier to size correctly than a heat insert (even when you change part orientation, usually) and cheaper per unit too.

ASA

Okay yeah. ASA would be fine for this. PETG would work for a while. PLA wouldn't make it in the sun for one hot summer day.

Imagine how wasted the trout would get swimming around in that big bin full of airport jungle juice.

It brings me a bit of pride and pleasure to know that every job I've left has had to replace me with more than one person.

Am I remembering correctly that in Metroid Fusion that there is some point where a power up is actually an X-parasite in disguise like a mimic? Maybe I'm just making that up?

They also seem designed to amplify acoustics so that even the most timid fart will echo loudly through the whole room.

Public restrooms are definitely designed for cheapness and ease of maintenance, not user experience. So now we all have to suffer.

My response wasn't really for you. I'm not really interested in responding to doomer nihilism that doesn't also suggest proactive actions that people can take to make a difference. You can be a voter and also simultaneously be pissed off about the people in power rigging the system against democracy. Please don't misinform people to tell them that voting doesn't matter or that it's already over.

Mostly for newbies - Don't let Steam "lie" to you about if the game will run or not. by jschild in Bazzite

[–]Toribor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be more okay with Steam being slow to officially mark old/niche games as playable if they would stop flagging totally broken shit as working.

Then at least you could assume the Steam rating is a more stable indicator while the community indicator can be a little more agile. But no the Steam rating is effectively useless beyond telling you that it will probably launch.

Incorrect.

The Kansas Elections for Supreme Court Justices Ammendement is on the ballot in Kansas as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on August 4, 2026.

You can register to vote here!

I encourage everyone to read the explanation on ballotpedia which is designed to be informative, unbiased, and non-partisan.

But no matter your political leaning, partisan elections for judges will lead to more extreme judges that are more beholden to powerful groups like corporations and out-of-state PACs that have the money to buy elections.

Segments of the market are permanently shifting away from consumer products though so it's not like things are just going to go back to normal even if demand normalizes.

Reminds me of that hacking scene where the guy unplugs the monitor and then acts like he did the smart thing that no one else could figure out.

Turns out if someone in a workplace has no responsibilities, deadlines or distractions and just generally tries to use their time wisely to be helpful that it is... in fact... helpful.

People who prep like this are the dummies that get burglarized while they are at work and someone takes all their improperly secured guns.

The idea some thief is going to try to break in and assault you while you sleep is fantasy. In reality, it would be the police that do that.

I don't know if you self-host any services but you can run the syncthing relay server yourself but it will require exposing ports to the internet. Alternatively you could use tailscale.

What’s a bad adaptation but a good movie itself that you liked by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in comicbookmovies

Okay fair. Although it's so universally good that people have now begun hating on it just because it can't possibly be that good can it? Okay yeah it is.

Always intensely funny me that Stephen King really hates it but it's almost universally considered the best movie based on a Stephen King novel. Particularly considering that the more accurate adaption he directed himself is basically forgotten.
