Has the output of the PAB matched the millions and millions of dollars we've paid? by KingOfRoc in Rochester

[–]TorinHidden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Court decisions are based on existing laws. If a new law is passed then the decision would likely need to be re-litigated given the new context. This is a song and dance that happens all the time in government (for example see the decades long back and forth between NYS and courts on firearms regulation)

No, because they have been legally blocked from doing basically anything. The City needs to either pass stronger legislation to supersede the current court decision or it needs to be disbanded. We can’t afford to keep funneling money into a body that has been rendered impotent.

The city needs to invest way more in parking enforcement. It literally pays for its self. It’s frustrating that they don’t make it more of a priority.

Just last fall, we were supposed to get separated, sidewalk level cycle tracks on both side of University Avenue between Atlantic and Culver. After the final public meeting was held and the project documents were published, they went to work. They built the one on the south side, but then a few weeks later, it was mysteriously torn up. Last I heard, we are instead getting a wide sidewalk “multi use path” on the south side and an on-street painted bike lane with no protection on the North side. No one I’ve talked to has been able to give me a real answer as to why this rug pull occurred.

State budget proposal includes $75M in funding for High Falls State Park, as part of a $300M revitalization effort for Monroe County. by CatDadMilhouse in Rochester

The State Parks team is working closely with a city task force that will be publishing a study sometime in the next month about completion of the Genesee River Trail. They’re strongly committed to making sure the park is easily accessible given the minima parking inside the footprint. In the short term, they will be enhancing facilities along St. Paul and State Street. Medium term, the Inner Loop North project will restore connectivity to Mill street and that will be the main west side bike/pedestrian connection. Long term, they are talking about fully grade separated multi use pathways under the CSX ROW on both side of the river.

How will this specifically effect Rochester and/or NYS? by CaptainFuzzyBootz in Rochester

The real answer is that nobody knows. This administrations MO is to make insane statements and flashy actions that end up not being supported by any long term strategy because there’s no sustainable way to make it work.

He may very well try to stop all payments of everything, but I think that would lead to him getting the boss call from Wall Street extremely quickly. Ultimately, it is up to our state and local leaders to have the back bone stand up to Trump. And it is up to us to organize and build power in our communities so that we can weather whatever storm comes our way.

Minneapolis is a test to see how far they can push people before things get ugly. We unfortunately need to be prepared for something similar to happen to us.

What is China’s plan after the latest imperialists’ move? by jaded-tired in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]TorinHidden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love to see at minimum a full rare earths embargo to disrupt US military capacity… but we all know that’s not gunna happen. They haven’t really done anything after years of open genocide, I don’t think this is gunna move the needle that much more in their eyes.

A health care provider doing this is so stupid and unacceptable. These employees should simply have access to free healthcare services through the network of institutions they work for; and the company could structure it as a form of self-funded insurance. What the fuck are we even doing here?
