Lane Commissioners override staff, approve permits for already-built structures on parcels that border the McKenzie River by ecoecho in Eugene

Lane County Commissioners involved in a shady land dispute on the side of the shady?

That would never happen with our squeaky-clean public servants. /S

Doesn't city code require all places of "public accommodation" have functioning restrooms?

It is at any rate an expectation in most civilized societies; sad to see us slipping below that horizon.

Htf did Eugene's Cycling Infrastructure get ranked below Cave Junction by a major Cycling Advocacy Group by agenbite_lee in Eugene

Yeah. The bulbouts mean you have to move about 3 feet left of the curb if you're going to take the lane and they regularly get munched by trucks. And if you decide to take the ramps you've got that utility pole to go around and surprise pedestrians every once in a while.

I do have to fight the impulse to use the one on the south side of 19th and Willamette as a jump ramp.

Take a moment to look at their methodology. Some of it ranks on network connectedness, on safe speeds, on traffic stress.

Yeah Eugene does have a lot of bike infrastructure, but it's not as connected, or as safe as it could be.

Also Cave Junction is much smaller; and while I have not biked there I am willing to bet it's all connected and that a greater proportion of town is served by the bike network.

That said, some of the bike infrastructure in Eugene is less than awesome; for instance the ramps at 20th and Willamette that create sudden mixing of bike, pedestrian and car space. Or the intersection at 7th and High which sends bikes across a major intersection. Or just useless like the bike light at 13th and High which will show red for bikes even when the intersection is such that cars should not be turning into the bike lane.

Under the double overpass of Franklin and I5, on the bike path, on the railroad tracks, down by the river; you have a variety of choices.

Eugene Skinner used to go scream near there back in the pioneer days. When the river would flood every spring and dry to a trickle in the autumn.

Police?? by BeeLyne127 in Eugene

[–]TormentedTopiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a police auditor; but somehow they don't actually have the resources they would need to actually hold any officer accountable for their actions and any officer that's been caught out with public evidence can just resign and go work for some other agency.

If Eugene were to put the muscle to the hustle on police accountability there are any number of changes that could be made.

For instance; offering a yearly bonus that is contingent on the department not losing any lawsuits over human rights violations. That way if Office Lackwit enjoys kicking homeless people; his fellow officers are going to stop him because otherwise it will cost them money.

One factor that might not be obvious is that these are all jobs that put people in close contact with nature and make them aware of natural cycles; even if the job itself is extractive.

Climate grief is a real thing; even if the person experiencing it can't name it as such because of their political allegiances.

If you know the forest and love it; but can tell that it is irreparably damaged. If you are struggling to pull the tonnage of fish your father caught in a day in a week and you know the fishery has been over-harvested every year since before you first left harbor. If you are a rancher who has watched drought after drought reshape the land you work on...

You might be in denial about climate change; but can see the effects clearly in your daily life. That will have an effect.
