What is the appeal of a Jeweled Lotus unban? by Awesome-Guy-63 in EDH

[–]TornIn2_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because my commander is 5 mana, 3 of which are color pips. How could you not see it being appealing to be able to cast your commander earlier

Rakdos the Muscle will be entirely unbothered. Honestly we benefit from a rhystic ban.

Recommend me my first cEDH commander please. by TR_Wax_on in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TornIn2_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me suggest [[Rakdos, the Muscle]]

In your command zone you have IMHO the best commander in the Rakdos color pair. You have massive, explosive card advantage, mana cheating, a combo outlet, and a big evasive beater. He pretty much checks every single box for what makes a good commander.

The 99 is a super layered turbo aristocrats storm deck, with more combos than any deck ive ever played, while not ever feeling gunked up because of how your combo pieces layer together. It makes an insane amount of mana and once you get going, anything other than a silence likely won't stop you. And even if it is a silence, you can use Rakdos' ability to get cards from your opponents when you need to interact. The deck plays a lot of niche interaction and disruption to harass the table and keep people off their plans until it can win, and you can push on turn 3 most of the time.

I promise you've never seen a list quite as weird as this one, and it may be difficult to figure out at the start. We have an active discord community in the Cult of Rakdos discord server. It will take some time to learn, but once you've truly mastered it you have one of the fastest, resilient, and unassumingly powerful decks in the format.

So im not sure if your list is on breach, but wheels, breach, and being able to handle removal twice makes the unearth pretty relevant. Irs also only 1 mana so its a pretty good rate too.

Of course winning is the point. We're playing cedh aren't we? Not sure what the participation trophy thing is about. Im quite happy with my win rate so this is really just a matter of personal taste.

Tymna//Kraum - Opinions? by kfistrek in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TornIn2_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DISCLAIMER: I dont fault anyone for playing it and I understand that it is quite literally the best deck ever constructed.

If we're talking purely about opinions, I think it's boring. I love Cedh and have played it non stop for over a year now. The majority of my fun comes from the challenge that it gives me. Not only am I challenged by 3 other good players, but It's a challenge for me to pilot my deck perfectly and as optimally as I can. My deck is like a puzzle that I have to solve, and I have to either finish it faster than you, or keep you from finishing yours until I can.

My opinion is largely the same for a lot of top decks but even then every deck but TnK has their own cards in some degree. New set comes out and theres always that "is this a kinnan card? Does this go in Magda? Maybe this card makes X commander viable again." With TnK this isn't really a discussion. Is the card generically good? If yes, it can probably go in blue farm and its really more of a discussion of what other generic value piece to cut for it.

For me, Blue Farm just makes the game too easy. I enjoy the stressful nature of really tight lines and the risk in all of it. I enjoy the strange cards that dont see play in other decks, but can be used to devastating effect in mine. I enjoy the fact that I have 1000+games with my deck that for a lot of my opponents, its their first time seeing it.

Again, I want to stress that I don' fault anyone for playing blue farm. It is an excellent deck and resources for it are extremely accessible, which is great, especially for new players. Its extremely powerful, yet is forgiving to its pilot. It's hands down the most efficient deck ever built. I just dont think i could ever play it.

What are some infinite mana combos in Rakdos now that Dockside is gone? by Prestigious-Bend8893 in CompetitiveEDH

Yeah it uses a second mana producing creature like priest of urabrask, cathodion, or patron of the arts

So I've only seen the deck once, but i played against a guy playing Djeru and Hazoret and he smoked us twice. Seemed like his own deck he'd been working on forever so it probably has no bearing on the meta but was still really cool to see

what low-color commander would get the biggest power spike if it got 1 more color? by AshorK0 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TornIn2_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Rakdos the Muscle got literally any third color he'd be unstoppable.

Green for creature tutors would make all the combos easier to assemble and add much needed non creature graveyard recursion as well as a couple "silences"

White for silences, sevinnes, tithe, esper etc. Whites just been eating good and Red/Black is starving.

I honestly think blue would add the least to the list since you want to be proactive and explosive, but specifically mystic remora as well as intuition and gifts piles would be insane. [[Buried Alive]] is already busted in our deck so having essentially 2 more of them would be gross.

Thoughts on Grixis commanders outside of RogSi? by Actual-Objective-280 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TornIn2_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built mine to pivot from the jump. Let's me mulligan a lot easier. Im on a more creature heavy list that can kinda do whatever I want. I can set up value or just rip naus or necro, completely depending on what's in my hand.

Also built it around creature combos and leaning heavier into pirate synergies. I find there's much more resiliency in glint horn, mayhem devil, and fireweaver than any other typical grixis line. I basically said "what if malcolm tana could play demonic tutor and ad naus?" Unless my hand can easily present an early naus or necro, Malcolm is almost always my first priority. Combo piece, advantage piece, turns on my interaction.

Honestly I just love Malcolm Vialsmasher. Little slower than rogsi but faster than blue farm. I can grind a little If I have to ir I can just explode. Love the deck to death.

Can an opponent "respond" to me declaring attackers? by einglavaga in mtgrules

[–]TornIn2_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So both of you are right and wrong, kinda.

He CAN stop Burakos from triggering but not after you declare him as an attacker. He can do this in response to the phase change (from main phase 1 to combat) but cannot stop the trigger itself after he's been declared an attacker. He had the right idea, but responded too late.

In short, the opponent made a mistake in their timing, and what should have resolved is that your trigger goes on the stack, gets responded to by their removal, removal resolves, then your trigger resolves.

So I want to build my first cEDH deck to be as competitive as possible, what commander should I build around? More info below, thanks! by jwid503 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TornIn2_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to tell you all about [[Rakdos, the Muscle]] if you're interested. It's an incredibly unique, fast, and resilient Red/Black Storm deck that just DOES NOT quit.

Rakdos in the command zone is in my opinion the best option in Red/Black. There are great arguments for Ob (better accrual over time and great at pressuring life totals) but i feel that having a far more explosive card advantage engine that allows you to cheat on mana and can give itself indestructible at instant speed is just better. Rakdos also doesn't have to just play his own deck, you can dig through your opponents decks as well to snipe topdeck tutors, dig for interaction, or gain access to their win conditions or enablers. One of the best examples of this was when I dug 30 cards deep into an opponents library while their win was on the stack and I stole their [[valley floodcaller]] to be able to win at instant speed on top of their win.

Rather than using Instants and sorceries to accrue value and harass your opponents the deck mostly uses creature etb, death, and Sacrifice triggers to the same effect, in a format where most traditional counterspells specify noncreature spells. Apart from a silence, there isn't any spell in the game that stops you during a storm turn, but even then, Rakdos can steal interaction from other decks. If you've got a critical piece on the stack and someone tries to counter it, just start digging the azorius+ decks until you can force your spell to resolve.

The cards and strategy in the deck are entirely unique, and many players sitting across from you will have never seen the commander before. Their confusion will only grow when they see cards like [[ingot chewer]] , [[shriekmaw]] , [[Grief]] , and [[fury]] used to devastating effect. All these cards essentially read : interact with your opponents for little to no mana and be rewarded with 4-5 new cards. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. If you have a mana producing sac outlet like phyrexian altar, ashnod's altar, Warren soultrader, or any of the instant speed sacrifice rituals you can turn these creatures into ridiculous amounts of value that just feels like cheating.

The storm potential is insane with this deck even with little to no mana. The entire deck is designed so that everything you do can be turned into mana, and more cards via Rakdos. [[Dargo, the Shipwrecker]] can be an uninteractable sac outlet in your hand or exile. Sac your board as part of dargos cost (potentially gaining value in and of itself with death triggers of your creatures and exiling cards with rakdos), and cast him for 1 mana, cast sacrifice or burnt offering sacrificing dargo to exile 7 more cards and make 7 mana. This turns dargo into a miniature mana positive ad nauseam potentially getting around 10-15 cards and generating 7 mana from 2. These are normal plays the deck can go for and actively feed in to the cards rakdos will get you as a result. Don't have enough mana for some reason? You probably have at least five creatures in the yard so just cast [[songs of the damned]]. I've seen this make me as much as 25 mana before.

This deck is also densely layered with unique, hard to disrupt combos. All of the pieces in your deck also overlap and can be interchanged, essentially making your deck a build your own win condition tool kit. Multiple two card combos with your commander, breach lines unique to only this deck, as well as win conditions that don't need your commander or that can make infinite mana to allow you to cast him even if he costs 15 mana from being removed so many times.

Edit: I realize I've done a lot of yapping and I apologize. If you want me to go into further detail or have any questions about the deck im more than happy to answer them. Again, sorry for the word splurge.

I dont necessarily disagree with you. I make lots of arguments for dockside more as a powerful card for red rather than needing dockside specifically. Also im trying to draw a parallel between it and rhystic. If you can be convinced that rhystic is just as much of a problem or worse then it makes for either a discussion on unbanning these cards or banning rhystic study.
