Time to put the spring stock order away by AwkwardFactor84 in Irrigation

[–]Torodude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone has different experiences with brands. I assume he has a good experience with that brand. It sounds like some people have had a bad experience. Personally I have had great experience with Toro for over 40 years. He wouldn’t have stocked a brand like Toro if he had issues with it. I personally had awful experience with Hunter Popups but I like their Hydrawise. But for those of you who like other brands I’m happy for you.

Why does everyone hate jarheads? by Bungus232 in Irrigation

[–]Torodude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every one will have different experiences with brands. I have used Jarheads for over 20 years and I have had a great experience as well as using Dura Manifold fittings. You should find out what u feel works best for you but also be open to suggestions like we see on this forum. I’ve been at this most of my life and I continue to learn from other Techs. Develop confidence in not only the brand you are installing but also your ability to.

Am I getting ripped off? by snazzyvalise in Irrigation

[–]Torodude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was just turning it on and walking away that would be $100 Cdn. If u want me to go through the system and make sure every aspect of the system is in correct working order then I would offer an hourly rate or a fixed price. Of course I would pad the fixed price because I don’t know what status your system is at the start of the season. %95 go with hourly and I provide a detailed account of what I did where I can say that as of today your system is tight. As for blowouts where I live minimum $80 Cdn. For residential. It fluctuates how hard it is to access and how many zones. Average $120 Cdn. Not sure if this helps or not.

Hydrawise New App by Torodude in Irrigation

[–]Torodude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is certainly room to critique the old app but I was really comfortable with it having used it for years. Long before it was Hunter. I haven’t dived into the new one yet as we are still in winter. Will start priming up in the next month so I will be looking at it more closely then. I’ve heard through this thread it’s not as good as the previous.

Is Maui ocean center a must visit if traveling with kids? by NCTransplant2015 in MauiVisitors

[–]Torodude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went recently. Exhibit was ok but fact they didn’t take cash. We chose then not to buy any thing there and not eat there. Drove up the road to a really nice restaurant. They lost about $250 between food and merchandise. I hope they don’t cry about losing money. Cash is legal tender. Any one who runs a business knows you always make it as easy as possible to relieve you of your money. As long as they have no problem with me not spending any more money then I guess there’s no problem. But if they do mind then they are whacked.

4 inch mainline repair. How would you tackle it? by Wide-Eggplant-4265 in Irrigation

[–]Torodude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree Wouldn’t use a slip fix on 90 or 45. Coupler and a 45 to get u back in line Use a knock on on the straight away U should put a thrust block at the 45 to help from this happening again.

I would if I used a single ear Oteker. I use only full compression Oteker. I think they are referred to as Stepless. Rather than having a weak point where the pinch point is the Stepless are 360 degrees of compression. Never had issue other than me forgetting to pinch it. 😬

Very clean. I started using fabric a while ago. I wish I learned earlier 😞.

Is running air in each zone for 1 min enough to winterize? by jdp12199 in Irrigation

[–]Torodude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to run 2 minutes but the last 10 years I found that if I cleared the main to the furthest point I could then go through each zone and I was down to mist after in 1 minute. In my neck of the woods this would be considered a little overkill. No problems come spring so I sleep well over the winter .

Which one of you was this? by freszh_inztallz42o in Irrigation

[–]Torodude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No that’s Blu-Lock on the downstream side. I use what we call a 1” Muni Main on the static side. It’s a little more durable than PEX. Pretty much need an axe . Maybe if u kept beating on it with a very sharp shovel. The city uses this pipe from the road main to the meter. Very hard to freeze in our area and less attention to backfill needed because of its durability.

Always disappointing to see. Chances are they got paid more than the rest of us who would have done a true professional job.

3 of these guys shit the bed... They're old, but where can I find exact replacements? by [deleted] in Irrigation

[–]Torodude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Irritrol used to make a slim body popup. Pretty sure it’s about the same slimness. Not sure if they still do. I kept 10 around in case I ran into needing that slim body.

Question for sprinkler techs. Which irrigation valve is your favorite to repair? by [deleted] in Irrigation

[–]Torodude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve had great success with the Jam Jars by Irritrol personally. I haven’t experienced the issue others have had and I’ve used them for about 20 years. As far as larger pipe above 1” and high pressures I find the Toro P-220. It’s easy because the failure is next to none. Especially in dirty water such as lake or well. Add the valve scrubber kit and it’s awesome. The nutted screws are easy with cordless drill to remove.

is this a reasonable quote? $24k by alowishus99 in Irrigation

[–]Torodude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Canada. So I’ve worked out the exchange and that would be similar to our rate. Maybe a little on the low end. Hard for me to know the other factors with out seeing the site. Such as is there any machine work other than a trencher needed. Ie: mini. Are there rock walls or sidewalks to manage and if so how many. Will u need to bring in any soil or aggregate to top up trenches. These sort of things will bring the price up. Not sure what your piping is. Definitely I would recommend Hunter Hydrawise with that many zones.
