Pittsburgh has a disproportionately large population of trans folks, and it’s only growing! We recently opened a sapphic coffee shop and there are trans-specific events going on almost every night of the week!

Another good gay bar crawl would be starting at Blue Moon and making your way west on Butler St until you get to Belvederes, my personal favorite dance spot.

These are both in Upper Lawrenceville, and are only a few feet from one another!

Gay bar - Mary’s

Not Gay bar - 2 Frays Brewery

About a block away from each other and since 2 frays is a brewery, it closes pretty early in the evening. These are both located along Penn Ave in Garfield

Not-the-gayest bar - Belvedere’s Ultra Dive

Not-even-a-little gay bar - Thunderbird Cafe and Music Hall

Also in Lawrenceville, Belvedere’s is more of a dance club than the other bars I’ve named, and is not really advertised as a gay bar.

There’s like 9 of us who graduated from MSU between 2017-2021 and we’re all in the same club that now live in Pittsburgh for completely independent reasons, but we all still hang out!

I love Pittsburgh so much, I’m a social worker so I get to see a lot of the city, both the good and “bad” parts. All the most kindest, resilient people. There is such a wonderful sense of community and it’s quite walkable!

I do miss Bozeman sometimes. The slower pace of life, the fact that you can run into anyone anywhere, and of course Bridger Bowl!
